So you get recruited by a coach and assistants get close to them and they leave and you just have to stay there and play for coaches you might not like or know? Most of the players go to schools because of the coaches and connections with them so why wouldn’t they be able to leave if coach is gone.

To me Dan Lanning is Lane Kiffin without the Drama.

Both really good coaches, recruiter, run high octane offenses, etc.... Just less baggage.
I was listening to the radio and they were talking about the turnover in the NFL and how the players and the locker room culture have changed so dramatically over the last 10-15 years that the younger coaches have an approach that the older coaches just can't match in terms of their ability to relate to the players.
The new generation of players doesn't want or respond to the old chewing nails and grabbing facemask approach, and the younger coaches (who are also largely technocratic nerds in a lot of ways) understand this and coach in a way that is palatable to players.
Idk if that's the case with college, but it probably is considering that the majority of NFL players came up in the last decade.
I don't think the game has passed Saban by, but the culture probably has. I know he has a really great relationship with players, but maybe that's something that has changed to the point that he's no longer willing to deal with it.
Who knows.
I just hope he and his family are healthy and enjoy a long, happy retirement.

He's had four high profile head coaching jobs, he's done well sometimes, he's been a mess at other times. Sometimes he's great, but you never know when he's going to sabotage himself.

I think allowing transfers in this type of scenario needs to be a part of the transfer portal, but with structure in place to protect both parties, the kids and the program.

I think Sark overcame his problem. I also believe that Lane got over being a young immature jerk. I think the behavior problems of both may have changed under the influence of Coach Saban. I do believe people can change. I used to drink and party, now I haven't touched a drop of alcohol in over 5 years, I think I changed.
Dude the last game he worked for Saban he was hungover and had to be replaced (he was supposed to coach the championship game originally)!
Except ... after 3 years in Saban's 'recovery program,' Kiffin had to be fired before a national championship game for extreme conduct unbecoming. Not anywhere near the case with Sark.
