Who is Saban's replacement?

Sounds like it might be DeBoer

I think.. but, last night it sounded like Lanning.
I still trust Saban to have had a plan with GB. 72 hours to give the successor time time to do what he needs to do regarding current team and employer. Iron out contractual details etc..
Or, we are wandering in the dark.
I like to believe Saban wouldn't leave the empire he built to crumble.

It's interesting why people are so high on Sark over Kiffin. Honestly, outside of this year, Sark has never been a particularly successful head coach. When comparing the two of them, Kiffin has five seasons of 10+ wins and Sark has one. I get the issues from the past, but they both have baggage.
It is probably because of the way Kiffin left and the season we had in 2020 which is more recent memory.

Agreed. Also, relatedly, the transfer rules as they exist currently are just astronomically stupid. Allowing an entire team to simply transfer out with no consequences, especially with the kind of money involved now, is basically just administrative and league malpractice. In no other sport in no other situation is that kind of nonsense allowed.

The issues of the past are apparently unforgivable.

Nevermind Saban sure didn’t mind when we lit it up on offense from 14-16, with 3 average at best college QB’s, Sims, Coker, and Hurts. Won one NC and played for another.

Nevermind Saban would have brought Pruitt back as DC in a heartbeat but couldn’t.

Nevermind Saban wanted to HIRE FREEZE as OC…but again was not allowed to. On and on we could go about character issues, and past mistakes.

It’s a pride issue not hiring Kiffin. He’s the best available that actually wants the job.

A lot of Twitter rumbling saying Tommy Rees is a serious candidate. 👀 Not sure how I feel about that other than Saban would have put a word in if this is the case. He didn't have much time to learn the "process.". But Nick can still shadow support with a youngster like Rees.

I would have taken him aside and read him the riot act, but eventually forgiven him and Bo Davis........

The thing about plans is sometimes everything goes as planned, some of it goes as planned and there's the nothing goes as planned. But it doesn't mean there wasn't a plan. Saban and GB could have a comprehensive well thought out plan, but it is no guarantee anything about the plan works. That's just the world we live in.

I think whoever we end up hiring will give us a decent indication of how close to the plan the process went. If Houston Nutt is announced as coach I think it is safe to say the plan went off the rails. (I'm being funny to make make a serious point) . Crap happens...

I dont believe that.............I think it was a courtesy interview

No plan survives first contact with the enemy.............

Thoughts:

Kiffin - what did he actually do (get horizontal with a trustee's wife/husband); go out and partied with Co-eds; crashed a car in the dean's front yard? lost his pledge pin? Everyone keeps saying there is no coming back from him, so lets let the kitten out of the bag and explain what was so bad. The statute of limitations would have passed by now, with a few exceptions (forgery, sex offense with minor under 16, arson, drug trafficking, etc.)

Smart - how would we reconcile the GA discipline issues and alleged rampant drunk driving? Do we want that at Bama?

A lot of folks are panicking because we remember all to well the misery from 97 to 05, aka (the Dark Ages). Especially since we do not have an established DC or OC on staff that would be the natural successor (Kirby, Sark, etc).

Also, when people say "we want someone who can recruit better that everyone else in the SEC, well folks I'm sorry if you didn't realize this, but that guy just announced his retirement. Out of the potential candidates only Sark and Kirby could do that.

Y’all are killing me actually thinking Rees is a possibility. He may get a practice/courtesy interview but he is not a serious candidate. If we get that desperate Locks would be a better choice and he would take it in a heartbeat.
He's a great name to put out there if you want people to stomach a choice that otherwise wouldn't be very popular.

Kiffin just has more red flags, but he's been a better head coach. It's why I basically have them tied. Kind of like where I have Norvell and DeBoer neck and neck. DeBoer seems like a better on field coach but has shown weaker recruiting prowess and has no ties to the southeast.

It's just which wart bothers you more I guess...

If I had to choose one of those four I might just roll the dice on Kiffin after taking another look at Sark's record, but there are things about every one of those coaches that are a bit alarming and things to like about each one as well.

My list just doesn't start with those guys, that's basically the plan B list in my mind.
