Why is Dabo so disrespected? He built the program at Clemson, won national championships in 2016 and 2018, and by all accounts is an excellent recruiter. The “portal issue”, for which he has been disparaged, is fatuous--- I’m certain if selected, he would willingly troll the portal to assuage his critics. How many rings do the other candidates have, or have such a pedigree?
The game has passed him by. He refuses to adapt to NIL and the portal, and his overall schtick is played out.

I was really in the Lanning camp when this started. He said he was staying at Oregon so I had to reevaluate.

I don't know anymore. If it's Debour, he's a good coach but I worry about his recruiting.

Sark and Kiffin I'm not sure are even in the running. I'd take either.

Norvell.....please no.

Demeco....good coach, but he ain't coming.

Kansas coach? KSU coach?

Rees....please no.

Some of us remember his time as a coach at Bama. I'm not going to go into details but there's a reason he was out of coaching (working in real estate) for a few years after the Albert Means garbage.

Here is one thing about Deboer that I find is a little unfair. Everyone wants to knock his recruiting. Yet is it not more impressive that a bunch of 2 and 3 stars won the best offensive line award, played for a national championship, and beat Oregon and Texas multiple times that are full of 5 star talent?
Exactly. Bama has Tarzans playing like Janes and this guy is maximizing potential with supposedly lesser talented players.

The fact that he decided to rank Ohio St 11th behind Coastal Carolina knowing full well that Ohio St is his next opponent should tell you that he shouldn’t be a top choice. Because I guarantee you that he is going to shoot off his mouth against someone and we are going to eat crap from other fans when it backfires. Like I said… he would be a perfect Auburn coach.

Whoever we get is going to have to embrace the fact that Nick Saban is still involved in the program at Alabama. That's one reason why I don't think we are going to get a "seasoned" coach.

I still remember when Coach Perkins (Handpicked by Coach Bryant) had the tower tore down on the practice field. It was headline news all over the US! I can't imagine what this message board would've have looked liked! I probably would've broke the internet! I can tell you as coach/former coach that the previous coach can be a road block to what you want to do with parents, fans, etc.... Just a warning!

What we need to as fans is don't ask "What would Saban Do?"

If you love Coach Saban, the King is no longer with us.
If you love Alabama Football, it will always be alive!

I agree 100% with Wes Neighbors that it will be a rare thing for a school to be able to buy a national championship. The thing that has consistently won championships will continue to win championships, and that is recruiting, player development, relationships, etc. We're in the wild, wild west of NIL but at some point the crazy money is going to end because the people with money is going to realize that they are getting little to no return on their investment.
So in essence you are saying “The same things that win have always won”? 😀

…but yet we tried to bring Pruitt back, and hire Freeze…

Oh, and kept an under-performing DC on board after a DUI.

We pick and choose when we want to play the “take the high road” game.

Kiffin is the best available. Period.
Yes, we have learned through your repeated posts that Kiffen is YOUR choice...

And puts to bed all talk of his retirement being “meticulously planned”; he literally knew five minutes before he did it.
I was totally stunned by CNS admission and as hard as it to believe it was the truth. That means we are finally in a process that doesn’t have his reliable hand on the wheel. This show is firmly in the hands of GB let’s just hope it isn’t a crap show.

There is no way to replace a legend. Thank you CNS for all the great seasons we love you and always will. Whatever the new normal is at Alabama we will adjust as fans it will just take time to dare I say it …process. We will still be Alabama …we will still win championships… we will still hire the best available coach out there.

RTR!!!

When Ray Perkins passed away I heard an interview with Cecil Hurt where he said that the worst thing for Perkins tenure at Bama was that Coach Bryant passed away so quickly and wasn't around to help smooth the way for Perk. It can be a very good thing for CNS to be involved to a certain extent and for the new coach to look for wisdom and guidance from the GOAT.

The thing about plans is sometimes everything goes as planned, some of it goes as planned and there's the nothing goes as planned. But it doesn't mean there wasn't a plan. Saban and GB could have a comprehensive well thought out plan, but it is no guarantee anything about the plan works. That's just the world we live in.

I think whoever we end up hiring will give us a decent indication of how close to the plan the process went. If Houston Nutt is announced as coach I think it is safe to say the plan went off the rails. (I'm being funny to make make a serious point) . Crap happens...
Very well said. The narrative is "don't ya worry...this is the GOAT we are talking about...of course he's got a plan". And while the gist of that is true, what people forget is, what's the ONE thing Saban has never dealt with at Bama? A search for a new head coach. There it is. These are unchartered waters for him. This isn't an OC/DC search. This is a search for what was previously his position. Plus, at the end of the day, Saban is just like the rest of us. Human. He can't say what's going to happen tomorrow anymore than anybody else can. For all we know, right now he may be thinking "well...crap...plans A, B, C, and D are out. Now what?"

There are going to be Coaches that don't want that guidance unless they played for him as a player like Coach Perkins.
