My biggest worry about DeBoer is how many defensive players do we lose. Downs and Moore should be key players on this team but I'm concerned we could lose one or both. He also probably doesn't get us Ryan Williams back which is a big loss.

Was a big fan for a while but I've faded for the same reason.
Pate also is a 247 guy. So part of it is projecting that you know where recruiting. Pate also has found a niche from “the hard traditionalist” side of college football. They mostly think that he is the greatest and most down to earth and will believe him at every stop. Granted he does know alot but you have to understand that he is selling a crystal ball platform… and no one will invest into a broken crystal ball platform so he plays the game of “I know something but can’t tell”.

I think it's crazy to think that he will run off our best players because he isn't "defense oriented" in the view of "fans".

Deboer is an excellent hire. He wins wherever he goes. I get it. UW is not Bama or the SEC but I think we could win a national title with him as coach.

I’d be good with Chris Klieman. He took over for a Saban-like (for FCS) legend at NDSU and continued their success. Albeit a different level he knows how to make this transition. His name hasn’t been mentioned but he would be a good hire.

As far as Dabo is concerned- he would win a national title here I think. Not sure if I would like all the rah rah stuff but I’d be ok with it. My preference would be someone else given his past here but if he’s the guy, he’s the guy although I doubt he’s being considered.

Not to mention getting in bed with fanduel. That has accelerated my disinterest.

idk. I think a lot needs to be made on who he brings in. A great deal of recruiting falls on the staff.

Ryan may be gone to Texas. But it is what it is

Our defensive players… Deboer runs a different style defense so it’s probably expected that we lose a good bit. But hey who knows.

I don't think he'll run them off. I think some of them just could be hard to keep especially DBs who specifically came to be coached by Saban. Now, maybe Saban staying around a little helps idk. But if I was a young kid who was set to be coached by the GOAT and now might have to learn a new system and have very different coach I might consider going somewhere like Georgia.

I'm not saying this is definitely going to happen. I am a little concerned about it though.

Harsin’s problem was that he thought Auburn was BK and he could have it his way. Recruiting and that were linked together especially after angry boosters revolted on him after one year.
we are not discussing Harsin, I brought him up only as reference to what happens when a coach is an Average recruiter but a good football coach. That works in other places where talent level is about the same anyway, it doesn’t work in a conference that provides about 30% of the NFL draft.

If they like Alabama football, they will stay! If they don't, I wouldn't want them.

I mean the plane from Athens could’ve been a semi blank check for Schuman to come help out and possibly take over if Kalen doesn’t work out.
Exactly why I'm not speculating (or worried). At this point, getting worked up or worried over the hire - when none of us (or anyone outside of the AD) knows anything - is silly.

And some folks are posting things that will make them look incredibly foolish when their 'disaster' hire comes in and does a fantastic job.

Yea I agree. Who he brings in/keeps will definitely be big.

My point was that his first real recruiting class was torpedoed by a bunch of boosters after the IB. So it’s kinda hard to make the comparison between him and Deboer.

Let's face it, Byrne has kept an amazingly tight lid on this operation. It might just be exactly as he said at the start. We're all dying to know, but I think the thing to do here is ignore the tweets and media clutter and wait till he tells us something. Then we can be happy/sad/angry/depressed.
The Washington cancellation is a significant event, whether it’s significant to the Alabama coaching search remains to be seen. It is an interesting coincidence.
