Former President Donald Trump said during his debate with President Joe Biden last week that the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol involved a “relatively small” group of people who were “in many cases ushered in by the police.”

In an internal memo last year, U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger said that the allegation that “our officers helped the rioters and acted as ‘tour guides’” is “outrageous and false.” Manger said police were completely overwhelmed and outnumbered, and in many cases resorted to de-escalation tactics to try to persuade rioters to leave the building.

The Capitol Police said in a statement this week that “under extreme circumstances, our officers performed their duties to the best of their ability to protect the members of Congress. With the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies and the National Guard, which more than doubled the number of officers on site, it took several hours to secure the U.S. Capitol. At the end of the day, because of our officers’ dedication, nobody who they were charged with protecting was hurt and the legislative process continued.”

In a 2022 interview with the Democratic-led House committee that investigated the attack, Christopher Miller, the acting Defense secretary at that time, confirmed that there was no order from the president.

The Capitol Police Board makes the decision on whether to call National Guard troops to the Capitol, and two members of that board — the House Sergeant at Arms and the Senate Sergeant at Arms — decided through informal discussions not to call the guard ahead of the joint session that was eventually interrupted by Trump’s supporters, despite a request from the Capitol Police. The House Sergeant at Arms reports to the Speaker of the House, who was then Pelosi, and the Senate Sergeant at Arms reported to then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. But Pelosi’s office has said she was never informed of the request.

The board eventually requested the guard’s assistance after the rioting was underway, and Pelosi and McConnell called the Pentagon and begged for military assistance. Pence, who was in a secure location inside the building, also called the Pentagon to demand reinforcements.

In a video recently released by House Republicans, Pelosi is seen in the back of a car on Jan. 6 and talking to an aide. In the raw video recorded by her daughter, Pelosi is angrily asking her aide why the National Guard wasn’t at the Capitol when the rioting started. “Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?” she asks.

“We did not have any accountability for what was going on there and we should have, this is ridiculous,” Pelosi says, while her aide responds that security officials thought they had sufficient resources. “They clearly didn’t know and I take responsibility for not having them just prepare for more,” Pelosi says in the video.

There is no mention of a request from Trump, and Pelosi never said that she took “full responsibility for Jan. 6.”

That's been disproven. There is neither papertrail nor necessary witnesses. Why would he offer security, when he spent hours, holed up, watching the fighting. That beggars belief, even among the most gullible...

Joe isn't the only Dem. There are some smart politicians in the democratic party. Considering what all underhanded tricks the Dems have done to keep Trump from even be able to run again, I do not doubt the election interference claims of Trump. You guys got away with it, hopefully not again.

What happened to all the evidence for this when Trump's lawyers got in front of any and every judge?

There was no evidence, because it didn't happen.

Why are Trump and cohorts being prosecuted in similar courts of law, state and federal?

Because there is a lot of evidence against them.

Or maybe Trump did start Trump University and scammed people.

Maybe he did obstruct justice in trying to influence the Mueller Report.

Perhaps he was guilty of withholding Congressionally approved funds from Ukraine until Zelensky did him a favor.

Maybe there is a phone recording of Trump trying to get the Georgia Secretary of State to find him 11,281 votes.

Did you hear about the fake electors that went to DC to overturn the election? If successful that would have been a coup.

What about E Jean Carrol? Was that a set up too?

How about Trump being found unanimously guilty by a jury Trump’s attorneys approved. I don’t know how many jurors there were, but there had to be literally hundreds of guilty votes and zero not guilty votes.

You keep making excuses for this despicable human when there is absolutely no evidence other than Trump’s word. The guy sleeps with a porn star while his wife is home with baby Barron and you excuse him.

The only reasons I can think of for why someone might vote for Trump are you are anti-abortion or a bigot. There may be others, but none would describe me.

Trump's not a symptom. He's the coroner for all of American politics. He's the one that discovered the dead body of American politics and called the time of death. The fact that Trump could get elected and may get elected again, it's a toss up right now anyway, is a giant middle finger to the political elite/establishment. The fact he's made inroads with black males, we'll see how much that holds on election day, is telling. The country as a whole has lost confidence in the leadership of the country. Even those voting against Trump on the whole don't think the Dems are great. They are just voting against the other guy.

he is 100% the fault of the party that put him up for, and continue to fully support for president. that party of personal responsibility can't pawn this off on everyone else, but i imagine it won't be for lack of trying

You make a valid point, but for him to win you had to get way more than Republican primary voters to vote for him. Many people had to say I'm voting for that guy because the rest of these people have done nothing for me so let's give it to the orange crazy dude. Trump is the evidence that our leadership class has let down or are perceived to have let down a huge swath of the population.
