Apparently there's language. Thanks for the heads up tusks_n_raider.

Head to youtube to watch it if you want.

Boy his analysis at the 7:00 mark shows very clearly the relationship between offensive formation, defensive pressure packages, and o-line blocking calls.
Bama has trips to the left of the formation, so USF is going to have a tough time bringing pressure from the offensive left (defensive right) because they have three receivers to cover. If USF is going to bring pressure (and they did on like 90% of Bama's offensive plays), it is going to have to be from the offensive right (defensive left), yet Bama o-line calls "Larry," (everyone blocks the guy to his left, leaving the right tackle on an island and the back to pick up any blitzers.
USF brings two from the offensive right (defensive left) and the running back picks up one, giving the other guy an unhindered path to the QB, who rushes his throw which sails over the receivers head.
The o-line should have called 5.0 (everyone blocks the guy lined up on him).

Remember when AJ and Barrett Jones got into a shoving match in the Notre Dame game? This was why. When the offensive formation, play call, and blocking scheme are at cross-purposes, somebody got something wrong.

If the starting O-line is back this week then I think we can see that. It would also do for us to mix in a little more running plays for Milroe. These two together can open up easier passing lanes.
I suspect we will see Proctor back at left tackle this week and I further suspect he was withheld out of an abundance of caution and to make sure he is available this week or next at the latest.
I also think Elijah Pritchett was held out as a precaution until coach had had enough of ineffective o-line play. The improvement was immediate and marked.
I feel bad for Formby, but he has some work to do to get ready to play.

I felt bad for him too. The poor guy wanted to melt into the field.

Hopefully Kadyn Proctor returns to the lineup against Wisconsin, his absence against USF, was noticeable & our Oline looked like an OLine from our Shula days at Alabama..

Until they finally woke up in the 4th Quarter & finally played like an Alabama OLine shoul play..

They did. Still, it's hard to be excited about this season when we were supposed to have this elite offense, yet we were only 1 point ahead of a G5 team deep in the 4th quarter...at home...on the night that we officially unveiled Saban Field. Not great.
I think expecting a brand new staff with a brand new offense to be elite right out of the gate is unrealistic - that said, I suspect by mid-season this offense will indeed be elite.

The awful thing about football is that when your opponent finds a weakness, they will come after it again and again until your team finds an answer.

I knew a guy who played defensive end at Sou. Miss. He talked about playing against Alabama when they were running the triple option. He said they ran to his side one time in the first series, and he put the crown of his helmet under the QB's facemask (back when that was legal), and Alabama stopped running to his side. Unfortunately for Sou. Miss., the other defensive end was not so successful, so Bama ran the option to his side over and over until the game was out of reach. My friend was proud that Alabama did not run to his side though. He felt he had held his end up.

How did Aaron Murry get all these different camera angles? If these are the ESPN cameras then why don't they show us these views more often during that broadcast?

Milroe is who he is, hasn't changed at all despite what some of his defenders say. He's been with the program 3 years now and still hasn't learned how to read the defense. Some still hold out hope that he will learn but, I don't understand where that hope comes from. If he hasn't learned it by now, it ain't happening.

I'm starting to worry that Grubb was a more important component to this "DeBoer" offense then we thought because so far, this looks nothing like what we saw from Washington last year. Or scarier, they don't think Milore can run Deboer's offense but are sticking with him anyway.

If we can get the OL fixed then we can start using our elite running backs as the center pieces of the offense and work Milroe in around them. The offense will not have sustained success building it around Milroe. He's too inconsistent in the passing game to do that. But it doesn't mean he can't excel in the passing game, it just means that part of his game cannot be what we depend on to open everything else up. The running game or the threat of one is what we need to help Milroe succeed in the air.
I get what you are saying but, that is not the m.o. of the coaching staff that was hired. DeBoer is not a run first to setup the pass type of coach and I don't think he ever will be. Those fans wishing for this style of play are going to be disappointed week after week.

We do remember when Proctor was a liability last year. Formby is going to be a good one down the road but Pritchett had his baptism already and knows how to adjust to game speed. We just have a lot of kinks to iron out.
I do not think Formby is a lost cause. he just has his work cut out for him. He'll be fine eventually.
The holding penalty on a 75 yard touchdown run was a back-breaker. I think Milroe is just such an effective runner that I'm not too worried about a defensive tackle catching him, but if you hold the defensive tackle, that is the best the defense can hope for because it turned a 75 yard touchdown into a ten-yard loss.

We have a new staff that inherited a QB from a team that made a playoff run. In practice, guy looks great. They are just now learning what they have at game speed and can either scheme to make him more productive or make a change at the position. Problem with a change is Milroe's leadership and team chemistry so coaches probably need to start getting Simpson some game reps. It is going to take some time to get this thing clicking but i do not think for one minute that Grubb is a magic man. I think CKD made him look good, not vice versa.

They call what he will execute. End of story.

Even Tommy Rees has forgotten more football than any of know, and he was calling verticals and drag in the hopes that Milroe would hit a big one downfield or take off running for a nice gain.

Fast forward to this year and a totally different staff is calling verticals and drag in the hopes that Milroe will hit a big one downfield or he will break containment and get a big run.

It’s whatever. He climbed the pocket and hit Prentice with a laser for a touchdown, like he’s supposed to do. He hit Williams on time with a hitch, playmakers make plays, and he scored.

He threw deep 7 times? Didn’t connect on any. It reminds me of “Days of Thunder” when comparing the tires after running laps the way the driver wanted and then the way the pit chief wanted. Pit chief had better times and the tires were still good. If he would just do what he’s coached to do he would be more successful.

He's not wrong, but I do find it hard to not chuckle a little with Aaron Murry critiquing timing on that particular route of the last clip he breaks down. It is almost like it reminds me of a similar play.

I do not know why you do not clock it in that situation.
Glad they did not, but spike the ball, catch your breath, let the offensive play-caller call a play and under no circumstances do you throw that ball to anyone in the field of play. In the end zone so it is a TD or an incomplete. I realize it was "spur of the moment," but that is exactly why you clock it.

Wasn’t Formby a threat to start this year? In fact, I was convinced he started the first game.

I think that is impossible. This is the biggest game this staff has had to date at Alabama - first away game and it is at a notoriously tough place to play. They have our attention and I think we will be ready to play with some urgency.
I agree. Some folks here may not see it that way.😎

We have an All-American interior OL. Get Proctor and Pritchett back.....get consistent with running.....open up some play action maybe and some running holes for Milroe.

He's not going to hit the crossers and slants, he just isn't....not on a consistent enough basis anyway. He's not going to hit the guys in stride for them to get any YAC either.

But....what do I know.....nothing at all really.
