Making sure I get this right. Throw out quantifiable statistics and W-L results and it comes down to style?
Kinda proves my point doesn't it?
In fact, if Jalen has inherent drawbacks and struggles to do what he does, doesn't that make it even more impressive that he's able to produce very similar results to the sainted Bryce, who everything always seemed easy for?
Okay… ask yourself honestly “how many games do we lose in 2021 and 2022 without Bryce” and then ask yourself “how many games did we win because of Milroe”. Aside from the 2023 LSU game and potentially the 1st half vs Georgia this year i can’t think of a single other instance in which Milroe was the definitive reason we were winning a game. Often he is the reason we ARE NOT blowing good teams out.
Then look at Bryce… we had some truly crappy defenses in 21 and 22, and needed to score in the 40’s to have a chance to win. Bryce delivered far more times than he didn’t in that regard. Of his 4 losses we were only held under 30… once. He was an overwhelming heisman winner for a reason. He was by far the one reason we weren’t being blown out of games and always had a chance on the last drive of the game. To pretend Milroe and Bryce were equals is just not accurate at all.
Jalen Milroe’s stats are not even in same zip code as Bryce. 47 TDs to 7 Ints is something Milroe is never going to come close to. That is quarterbacking over being a running back that can throw.
If you want a REAL comparison for Milroe then Bryce isn’t the one that favors Milroe in any way than just surface level casual fan arguments. It’s like saying Ben Roethlisberger is better than Tom Brady because he has a higher win percentage against the Ravens in the playoffs. Just because a quarterback starts and wins a game vs Team A and another starts and loses to them doesn’t tell you anything. If we are going that route then Bryce is clearly better because he beat Texas on the road while Milroe choked at home. See how that works?
Like I’ve said multiple times, Milroe is more comparable to Blake Sims in terms of production , play style, and background than any other quarterback in the Saban era. Heck their stats now are insanely comparable. The biggest two differences between the two are that Blake played his game more instead of trying to prove to NFL scouts that he was something that he isn’t and secondly Blake was way more silent than Milroe. Both are/were highly talented quarterbacks with high potentials but both had glaring weaknesses.
