Crime blotter

Its reported that he was shot twice, cleared a jam in the gun walked up and shot one more time. None were reported as head shots so I doubt it was a pro. Most likely a very disgruntled employee or customer. 9mm shells were found on street.

Remarkably calm shooter, pro or not. Wow.

This is wild.

Our US partner CBS News has just confirmed with law enforcement officials that the words "deny," "defend," and "depose" were written on the shell casings recovered at the scene of the attack.

We just switched to UHC during my wife's open-enrollment. I never had any denial of claims with BCBS Wellmark. We shall see what happens with the new insurance.
We've been with them for a while now - haven't had any denied claims, but my wife has worked in healthcare and knows how to get things done wrt insurance. We're also rarely ill or need medical care outside of annual checkups.

I've heard horror stories about UHC from people who work in doctor's offices, though.

If I was the shooter I'd be quickly trying to get somewhere that doesn't have extradition.

i have to think I would be a biased juror if I was called to sit on his trial.

The deceased hauled in $11 million dollars last year. For a company that reportedly has a 32% denial-of-claims rate. He profited off the miseries of hundreds of thousands.

I would have a very tough time being unbiased as a juror, to the point I'd likely not make it though voir dire.

This is also going on in NYC........2nd day without a verdict. I hope the kid gets off.......

New updates........

The judge has dismissed the 1st (main) count of manslaughter in the second degree, after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

Jury had been told for 2 days now.....they couldn't consider the 2nd count, criminally negligent homicide, until they reached a verdict on the 1st charge.

Defense has been asking for a dismissal or mistrial.

Judge seems intent on getting a verdict from the jury on "something".

I'm not law expert but the optics here aren't that great.

I'm certainly not a lawyer but it seems to me that, based on what I've read and heard about the testimony, a conviction of criminally negligent homicide isn't unrealistic. I'm open to other thoughts and acknowledge that I might be ill-informed, so I'd like to hear why that's not correct.
