Bama Game Thread: CFP Selection Show details (12p-4p EST ESPN): Times, where to watch; Selection show 'game thread'

I ain’t mad. Ain’t happy, but mad I ain’t. I’m not sure this team and staff have what it takes to navigate this bracket and come out to play the NCG anyway. It would have been nice to have had the opportunity but we shot ourselves in the foot in Norman. Now I’m gonna shut down for a bit and head out to the garage for some brews and customizing on my Sky Redline.
ROLL TIDE!

Well, my interest in the playoff just went from "only a little bit of interest" to "no interest at all." Man, they are really making it increasingly difficult to even watch college football. I thought I would always be a die hard college football fan, but so many things are just garbage now.

I'm glad that many of you still seem to get enjoyment from the game. I hope you all enjoy the holidays.

A lot of that ranking makes no sense. Texas at number 3 with two losses to Georgia and no ranked wins. Indiana ahead of Boise with no ranked wins and Boise won their conference. Penn state still ahead of Ohio state who beat them. And again SMU ahead of Clemson who just beat them. Terrible rankings! At least it’s over now and we can quit being anxious.

The committee got criticism last season for moving Alabama above FSU so they took the easy way out this time to avoid the criticism.
Yes, this is part of it I think. With Bama on the bubble there was really only a slight chance of them getting in. SMU had to win last night. After seeing this now, I don’t know if that would’ve been enough. It’s an over correction for not only last year but 2017 as well and 2011 (BCS era). Bama got in when the whole CFB world thought we shouldn’t. If that’s any team except Bama I think they stood a better chance of getting in.

Granted, if we don’t lose to two 6-6 teams, we’re in no question. Just win one of those games. Those were quality opponents this year. But all the committee sees is the W/L record with no analysis. That requires hard decisions.

ETA- keeping bama in the top 12 in previous weeks was for one thing- TV ratings for their ranking show. Bama fans and haters will watch and discuss a bad sports show.

The ranking system is flawed as a whole. If you are ranked early on in the season you have advantage to start. Pre season polls even before we see a team play is dumb. The same with this the playoff rankings it boxes you in too much. Just say these are the top teams we have in it now but don’t give there rankings. Your either listed as in or out.

This...B10 EVERY year.....IU should never have been a top 5 team...Illinois was high at one point...it totally skews the whole system...the biggest recipient every year is penn state...they get a top 10 ranking every year....finish 9-3 and lost to every ranked opponent they play...what are they 0-10 or something vs OSU and Michigan until this year??? SMU should never have been as high as they were...the committee doesnt help itself by doing this and just following the AP/Coaches...

I agree with Nick, Bama should cancel all OOC games against tough opponents and only schedule easy G5 games.

There’s literally no benefit now, and I know our losses were in conference but we scheduled current and future OOC P4 teams for resume builders (and money involved I’m sure). Well Penn State, Indiana, and SMU didn’t and they’re massively rewarded for it.

Think about; FSU will probably be bad against next year, if we beat them like a drum, we won’t get credit for it, if we lose, it could keep us out of the CFP, or give us a bad draw so what’s the point?

For everyone saying that we should cancel OOC games… we lost 3 conference games and were 4 and 0 vs OOC.

Honestly think this is more of a call to schedule more strategic in regards of Non conference games. I mean we get nothing by playing a B1G because the B1G is going to get multiple teams in. We should be scheduling more ACC, Big XII, and MWC teams and get rid of the Sunbelt, AAC, and D2 teams. Because common opponents is going to be our best friend going forward.

More proof that this committee doesn't know anything about football. This was just "let's make sure everyone gets a participation medal". It had nothing to do with putting the 12 best teams in.

Let me tell you this: Watch those teams getting blown out in first round, and Committe will look real bad and there will be adjustments made to ensure this stuff doesn't happen again.

Bottom line is we lost 3 games we should have one with the right focus and game plan.

I’ll cut us some slack for Tenn because if Milroe could throw the football remotely near the WRs then we might could win that one but he didn’t so we were almost helpless.

But Vandy and OU we were straight out coached out prepared and did not come close to matching the opponents effort.

Milroe was bad in those games too but so was everyone else.

We should have been 10-2 at worst though.
