At the beginning of the season, call me foolishly optimistic to think that Jalen Milroe would make huge strides in terms of developing as a pocket passer. That meant great improvements in the areas of pocket awareness and decision making. But, I didn't see that at all really. He's basically the same QB that started against Texas A&M back in 2022.

"Everything will be fine" begins with a fresh start at QB in 2025

This is extremely fair perspective from @WMack4Bama @B1GTide and @Bamabuzzard

It's not matter of who's right or wrong. I think the coaching staff has opportunities to correct the issues with OL that popped up all season long. I think this is the first off-season where they truly can breath and fix what's broken. The tackle .. just put Fromby there and put Caroll and we should be okay.

Only thing I'm concerned right now is the OC.... I don't think he did great job calling plays...

I'll dig in this tomorrow!
How creative can you be when you only have four plays in your playbook?🙄

I saw that. It's concerning and kind of frustrating to watch but it's not all uncommon. I'm a 49ers fan and there was some talk about Trent Williams tipping plays by the way he lined up at LT. Maybe he was...but it's Trent Williams. You still have to get by him. So I said all that to say, even if 4 was tipping plays, I still think we had opportunities to maybe execute a little bit better.
Yeah OL guys tip plays a lot. You're right that it's not uncommon. But it feels like a QBs feet is a really really easy one to read and you'd think easy to fix.

In a Commanders game the other day our guard Sam Cosmi was giving away some plays as run/pass and he's pretty easily our best guy on the OL

I may be mistaken but didn’t his oline last year win the Joe Moore award? That being said, if we’re looking to get a little smaller and more athletic, someone may need to send video of OSU’s d-line and their size and athletic ability. They were slapping Oregon’s rear ends off.
That's my concern. It's all fine to think you can do the smaller / faster thing and be effective on the west coast. Get to the Big10 and SEC and see what the DL looks like and it will very likely reset your thoughts.

That said, I do think our offseason work with the OL should have a heavy, heavy focus on increasing quickness and explosive power.

Also take into account that Huff left us with Grubb.

I'm not sure his feet had much to do with our offensive production (or maybe his feet made the production offensive, idk). Listening to cubelic this morning and he said as a d lineman or lb...your way more focused on your job/reads. You're not looking at the qb's feet. We couldn't run because the whole offense was predictable and stacked box/blitz blew everything up.

I think the combination of DeBoer, Huff, and Grubb was magic. The creativity of them all working together was much better than each individually. Sort of like the Beatles. McCartney, Lennon, and Harrison were each very talented musicians. But the three of them working together produced something really special.

You know how it is. You can practice and practice and practice, but when the rubber meets the road, you revert back to what you do naturally. I watched it with Trey Lance. He worked with Mahomes passing coach to change his throwing motion and work on his accuracy. Looked amazing against air. But once the pads and lights came on, he reverted right back to his old habits.

I typically enjoy Cubelics take on things, but this is 100% WRONG. Teams scout for tells. That tell becomes a READ. We do this in HIGH SCHOOL right now so there is a 0% chance that top-tier college programs aren't. It's just like the LB looking at the formation and making an adjustment to the D alignment or call based on what he sees. If I know there's a 90%+ chance I can diagnose pass/run by something a player is doing, that becomes something just like adjusting based on the formation and I have an audible for it.

In the clips the guy posted of the UM game. Look at the difference in how the edge players play on every down. It's pretty clear - on the pass reads they are attacking the outside shoulder and getting up field as fast as possible. On runs, they aren't. Certainly looks like they had some idea of what they were doing at the snap.

I think Brailsford acquitted himself pretty well at C this year though and he is undersized by typical SEC standards. Even guys like William Vlachos have been successful and that was back in the days of Terrence Cody-type DL. I know those are both centers, but we have had a number of "undersized" OL that have played really well for us.

Seems to me like technique and fit for a scheme are as important for OL as anything. And it also seems like those things were lacking for us this year. Hopefully CKD and crew can get it ironed out with a full offseason...

From some reports, Grubb isn't long for Seattle.............could possibly get both Grubb and Huff back

You can design/scheme around one guy who is smaller by pulling and trapping and having them be the '2' on combo blocks.

Brailsford did ok. he doesn't get beat and is assignment/technique sound. He won't get driven back often (a little bit, but no more than any others do). He does not move a guy out of a hole though.

I'm a little concerned about the style of OL play they brought in. I know it worked out west, but they don't face the type of DL we see in the SEC or now the Big10. Out west guys were either big, or fast and very few are/were both (see Oregon). On our schedule we will see lots of DL who are both pretty darn big, but also exceptionally quick, even the DTs. They are able to disrupt plays where we are pulling OL by using quickness to get into the mix much more so than guys out west typically did. I don't want to make a call based on this season because I think we were too deficient at QB for much of anything to work, so we'll see how things progress next season.

Good morning, folks! Please bear with me as I share my thoughts on few things within the team and the performance on the field. I'll keep it short and simple: (Y'all know I'm lying anyway) All, I'm not trying to have a lengthy debate on Milroe and I'm weary on how everyone has reacted in the last 72 hours... so allow me to share my perspective and if you don't agree, that's fine.

1. QB performance- It has been uneventful season for Milroe. This was a guy who was supposed to be in NY for Heisman Ceremony. What fell apart for Milroe? At first, his injuries. He was battling more injuries than we know. His confidence took a hit for the worse and he never was the same after that. I do believe there was lot going on behind the scene that we'll never will know... Milroe deserve lot of heavy criticisms for the right reasons, but at the same time, we all aren't seeing the big picture as a whole. It feels like from what I've seen with people who's close to the program are saying different perspectives than the fans for the most part, so that's something worth to think about. Now this OC we have......

2. The offense wasn't installed all the way for this season. I think they ran maybe 5, 10 percent of the offense. We don't have the right personnel for that. While this is CKD's offense and we all know that, But I can't let Sheridan and CKD off the hook for the way they've managed the offense this fall. In the Michigan game, We had opportunity to go up on Michigan to win the game, and once we got into redzone, we did not run the ball not one time. The yards were there. We just need a 1st down, not a TD. We had opportunity to win in teh games we lost, but the losses were on coaches....

What happened to Milroe in the opening sequence of the game against Michigan was exactly the same thing that happened against Oklahoma. This kind of thing doesn't happen offense... Something is going on.. I don't think Sheridan put Milroe in the best position often.

3. OL performance this season has been crappy for the most part. Like I said before, Pritchett should've been benched, but Fromby wasn't ready. Most of our issues were at Tackle position. Fix that, and I think OL performance will perform much better. This goes back to Sheridan and his playcalling. I think we've had several ineligible player on the field called so many time against Alabama.

4. What I'm hoping to see in the next few weeks is changes on both side for coaches.
CKD needs to hire a QB coach. Sheridan isn't one. RB Coach- I think we need a change there. fresh look. WR coach- we keep him. OL- We need changes there. DL- Roach I'm mixed We need him because of his ties to the Alabama pipeline. LB- I'm okay with that.

I'm not concerned about CKD, but his clock started ticking the moment they lost the game against Michigan. I think his demeanor will change on sideline going forward. He'll be fine. He just need to get the team in the playoff each year.

Spring camp:
I expect the spring camp to be rough for most players because of coaches installing more offense. Ya'll think Russell will win the starting job, but I don't think he will. He needs to gain weight before he can see the field. I don't think he can do that in time for the season to start. I believe he needs 20-25 pounds gain.

You seem to want to hang this on anyone other than Milroe. You on the LANK take, too? ;)
