I would like to hear an articulation of what the policy objectives are (not the tactical or operational objectives, but at the level of grand strategy, I have not heard so I google searched. The problem still remains… what is the goal here?
The Trump loyalists have constantly said “regime change” but once they found out that Iran’s government was more than an 80 something year old man they are on their back foot trying to pivot from sounding stupid.
There is a reason Dubya didn’t go to war with Iran, and there is a reason why Obama didn’t either. We are seeing the reason play out. 1) Iran is more like Turkey and Saudi in their ability to take a punch than Iraq and the Taliban government in Afghanistan ever was and 2) an attack on Iran would create an existential crisis amongst the regime in which they are going to go for broke to disrupt commerce in the entire Middle East.
So again… what is the goal here?

Center for Strategic & International Studies, citing Trump, says the objectives are:
- Preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon
- Destroying its missile arsenal and production sites
- Degrading its proxy networks
- Annihilating its navy
to what end. You may say to protect American lives,
Unfortunately, with fools like trump and Hegseth in control
Well, no, the source I cited (CSIS, citing Trumps address) did not list that among the objectives. You forgot “regime change”.
In looking at the big picture - this action isn't being done solely for American interests.
It's being done for the entire Middle Eastern sphere - as well as for America.
Stability in the Mid-East benefits everyone - including the US.
First there was Gaza - now Iran. Not sure after this we will need to insert ourselves militarily but something had to be done about Iran sooner or later and I remain on board with this 100%.
I just heard an impromptu press conference by Rubio and he said pretty much verbatim three of these four. He did not mention proxy networks. You forgot “regime change”.
I can understand why a draft dodging sufferer of terminal bone spurs is not familiar with the Thursday evening “Vietnam body count” of the late 60s, all those losers and suckers.
Secretary 90 Proof apparently doesn’t understand that when you get your car home safely it doesn’t make the news but if you cause a 16-car pileup with deaths it’s the lead story.

True. It is incumbent on the president to be clear as possible as to what objectives he wants to pursue. That is pre-eminently his domain. How the military can achieve those objectives is SECDEF and CJCS's job, but what it to be achieved is the president's. And if he tries to be vague, then he will undermine the work of the Pentagon because if you do not know what the objective is, how the heck do you know whether you are headed that way and when you have arrived? To the extent the president issues clear objectives and priorities, to the same degree the op has a chance of being successful. Politicians like keeping their options open, but that really hamstrings the military. Here is the thing… Rubio may be the only one that has a little bit of sense out of the 3 war daddies. But both Hegseth and Trump keep shifting between regime change and protection of the Middle East to whatever it is tomorrow. At the end of the day Trump is the leader of the military and his words on the subject carries alot of weight and projects the official policy. Which has been shady at best
