Re: Gene Chizik will be the next Auburn coach

Hilarious quote from one of the Aub's:

Only slightly better than Patrick Nix. Imagine how much more successful Colonial Bank would be if someone smarter than Bobby Lowder were running it. GladI got my money out of his bank years ago.

He lost to Kent St last year and got beat 38-10 by the mighty Baylor Bearsthis season. I like the couple of upbeat Aubies who call him a defensive guru yet he gave up 50 twice and 49 to....Texas A&M?? Imagine if they would have played Texas Tech or OU!!

Wow. From Paul Clark-publisher of CycloneReport.com....

When Chizik was hired, I told some media colleagues in confidence that his stay at Iowa State would be three years maximum. Either he would fail miserably and be fired or he would have a little success and jump on the very first opportunity that came along to move back south. Now I must admit, even I am surprised at the bizarre turn of events whereby he failed miserably at Iowa State and still got to jump on the very first opportunity that came along to move back south. What the hell Auburn is thinking is anybody's guess. And who cares. Because it just unburdened Iowa State of its most unprepared, overmatched and incompetent head coach of the modern era.

What's even more funny is that the Barners are paying Tubs 5.1 million to go away, and if rumors are correct, 3.1 mil a year for this guy? Did President Bush loan Tres. Secretary Henry Paulson to Auburn? Sounds like some of his sound financial advice. LOL.

Re: Tom Dienhart reports on the Auburn coaching search

A limerick for the occasion:

A coach has finally won the job
We all pity the poor helpless slob
cause instead of Collette
he'll most likely be met
by an irate disappointed mob
His resume Jacobs had tucked,
Though by other AD's he'd been bucked,
Gene Chizik was hired,
In spite of Gene's mire,
And now, the Barners are...screwed.

This is so great!

Thankfully (for Iowa State) he didn't have to play Texas, Tech or Oklahoma this year. I hear the first thing he's going to do is try to get Bmam off his schedule...

This is dumber than some of our hires between the time Coach Stallings left and the time Coach Saban arrived.

We've seen how this movie ends and it ain't pretty. There's no telling how far this is going to set their program back.

Great job All-Barn!

I'm stunned.

They dump a winning coach (yes, Tuberville was a winner!) and hire Chizik! Glad they bypassed Gill (he's gonna' make some BCS conference school look very good in a few years... Iowa State maybe??) and glad Muschamp said NO.

This was on the Barner board about their new coach. Thought it was hilarious.

Good Lord. I will give him as much time as I gave Tubberville who I thought was a bad hire. He gets one season but I am not very hopeful. I am astounded and very, very saddened. With all the great and good choices out their I just can't believe this. Miss State did much much better than Auburn.
Guess they will be the bottom feeder of the SEC. Looking at all the other coaches in the SEC, it warms my heart to see AU as the school with the worst coach. UK and Vandy even have a better coach than the Barn.

I've been working in the yard all day today, and got to TideFans just a few minutes ago. When I read the title to the thread, I thought it was being sarcastic. Then I read the thread and and found out it's for real.

Let's see....
-- Fire a coach that won a lot, less than a year after giving him a big fat extension.
-- Pay him $5.1 million to go away.
-- Hire a coach who's been a head coach for two years, with five wins total
--Pay that coach over $3 million a year to come.

I'm dumbstruck, and as you guys know, that doesn't happen much.

It's obvious to me why this hire was made--Gene Chizik can be controlled by the PTB at Auburn. This will become increasingly apparent as he hires his staff.

Simply hilarious... He couldn't win in the Big 12 North... How is he gonna win in the SEC??? Barn fans aren't going to give him much of a chance... :pDT_out:

A good man and a good football coach

The biggest challenge he has to overcome is the negativity which has surrounded his being chosen to replace Tommy Tuberville. It's hard enough to win when everyone is on the same page. It's a whole lot harder when everyone is not.

For the first time in a long time, there is an opportunity for the football coach, the athletics director and the rest of the administration to, in fact, be on the same page. But for Chizik to have the best opportunity to win he can have, the fans will have join up, too.

I can't say whether Chizik will win as much as he needs to win or not. I know he'll work tirelessly at it. I know he's a good coach. I know he's a good man.

And that says a lot.
When thats the best thing you can say about your new football coach... yes, that also says a lot.

These comments were from readers and posted below the article:
Folks give your new coach a chance! Gee whiz. He is a defensive genius. However I thought you all needed an offense.
Chizik had 42 points per game scored against him in his conference this year.
Defensive genius?? LMAO.. .something is definitely wrong in aubieland. OTOH it's the greatest Christmas present they could possibly give - to us and the rest of the SEC!!
It's one that will keep on giving for years to come. :hurray:
