Wonder why Lowder has such wood for Chizik? I read that Patterson interviewed just Thursday.... He would have been a much better hire than Gene, IMO.Yes. I do.

His reasoning was sound. He didn't duck his poor HC record...Did you guys hear Kurt Herbstreet? He was very positive about this hire.... :conf2:
Because Lowder can control Chizik, who will probably be grateful for being rescued from Aimes. I guarantee all the other coaches interviewed saw the writing on the wall, or Lowder got the impression he'd have another Tubberville on his hands - someone he couldn't control.Wonder why Lowder has such wood for Chizik? I am not sure that I agree, but it is an interesting thought...Because Lowder can control Chizik...
Well, Chizik knows exactly what he's walking into. The hire looks like the "path of least resistance", when it comes to a meddling BOT.I am not sure that I agree, but it is an interesting thought...
Think about this, Everyone remembers who was the cause of jetgate but what people forgot was that Cheezit was in on it also. There was an agreement with the Bot that Cheezit stay as DC when Bobby P took over the job. Once a yes man always a yes man.I am not sure that I agree, but it is an interesting thought...
They ain't yellin' Botta Getta for nothin'. ;-)Because Lowder can control Chizik, who will probably be grateful for being rescued from Aimes. You couldn't be more wrong. You must listen to the media. Miami was 4-12 the year before Saban went 9-7, almost made the playoffs and was considered for NFL Coach of the Year. Miami was 18th in the NFL in defense, he fired Muschamp and Miami improved to 4th; but Saban was overridden by higher-ups when he wanted Brees instead of Culpepper who got hurt. Had to start Joey Harrington, yes Joey Harrington, in a QB driven league, went 6-10, with Brees would have won 10-12 games. Bama's good fortune was that Saban's success at Miami was muted. Miami won 1 game the next year. So, the years prior/after Saban 5-27, Saban's 2 years 15-17. He was quite successful.Very nice post. Although discounting Monte seems a bit "biased" on your part....
No doubt, Saban is an awesome college HC! However, the only common coaching comparison between Monte and Saban is the NFL.... Only one of these gentleman was actually successful in the NFL, and it wasn't Saban.
Robert Meachem reported nine people were there to receive Coach Chizik. Well not to greet just more like protest his hire. The hiring is just to fill the gap until a game plan is in place to fill that position. Ole Jay is feeling the heat and Lowder wants to run the show. Its a double edge sword and the ugliness of it all will not go away anytime soon. Chizik looks and talks like Gomer Pyle. Golly Shazam.

Very nice post. Looking back now I believe the perception of failure was due to the step back from year 1 to year 2.... although perfectly understandable given your reasons above. Especially with concern to the QB postition..... Because I can certainly relate to the effects of a crapy QB, ala Crompton/Stephens...You couldn't be more wrong. You must listen to the media. Btw, NFL 'experts' know of Saban's prowess - listen to them - real football guys, Chris Landry, etc., not media types like the ESPN clowns, etc.
Gene Chizik, a former Auburn defensive coordinator and current head coach at Iowa State, has been named the head football coach at Auburn University, Athletics Director Jay Jacobs announced Saturday.
Chizik, who helped Auburn and Texas to consecutive undefeated seasons in 2004 and 2005, will be formally introduced as Auburn's 26th head coach at a press conference Monday.
Chizik, a 23-year coaching veteran, was Auburn's defensive coordinator from 2002-04, where he helped guide the Tigers to a 13-0 season in 2004 while earning the Frank Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach. He also served as the assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator at Texas from 2005-06 where he helped the Longhorns to a perfect season and national championship in 2005.
