Can I ask why Charlie Strong never got a sniff from Auburn and doesn't seem to get a sniff from anywhere?
Because Auburn is located on Lee county, and Charlie Strong is a black man married to a white woman. The old money at AU would never allow it.

I couldn't believe it when I found out he was hired. Unbeleivable. I thought it was just a smokescreen.

So, the three new coaches in the SEC are Kiffen, Mullen, and Chizik. I can't help but to feel underwhelmed.

Of all those, I think MSU made the best hire.
Mullen, Chizik and Kiffin are probably all similar as individuals. However, the staff that Kiffin will bring in will be second to none in the SEC. Therefore, Kiffin easily gets the call over these other clowns!

Second to none? You're kidding right?
Monte Kiffin is only one of the greatest defensive minds in the history of football... Orgeron is one of the greatest recruiters in all of college football (previous recruiter of the year)... Not to mention a couple others who have yet to be announced!

I guess your going to tell me Steele is better than Kiffin?!?!?

Time will tell - Monte's been coaching in the NFL for 25 years, a very different pace and style.

For now, yes, Steele is the better college choice - the landscape is littered with coaches who couldn't make the transition from college to NFL (or vice-versa).

And this is from a HUGE Bucs fan who travels to Tampa every year for home games...

Sorry UT, but this thread is about another group of losers...not UT. You can start your own UT thread though. Just don't derail this one.

From ESPN: [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3767115"]Auburn Tigers hire Gene Chizik - ESPN@@AMEPARAM@@http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=3768045@@AMEPARAM@@3768045[/ame]

Chizik's defense regressed in every major statistical category this season. The Cyclones worsened from 65th to 111th nationally in total defense, 93rd to 110th in scoring defense, 44th to 95th in rushing defense and 91st to 115th in total defense.
Their struggles were particularly apparent in the Big 12 game, which has become one of the nation's highest-scoring conferences in the last several seasons. The Cyclones allowed at least 28 points in every conference game this season and at least 422 yards of total offense. Iowa State also had allowed 28 points in 14 of 16 conference games under Chizik.
Iowa State currently has a 10-game losing streak which ranks tied for the second longest in FBS football with SMU. Washington has the longest at 14 games.

The obvious difference between Lane Kiffin and Nick Saban, of course, is the man at the top. Kiffin isn't even in Saban's universe, and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. There is hope, but there is no evidence.

Secondary to that is that the defensive coordinator at Alabama is, for all practical purposes, Saban, and the defensive coordinator is now Kirby Smart, not Steele -- although Smart and Steele both have big roles in calling coverages, etc. Comparing Saban to Monte Kiffin, I would take Saban, and I imagine at least half of whatever sample set you want to interview -- fans, coaches, whoever -- would agree.

So at this point, to say the UT staff is better or even has the chance to be better than Alabama's is nothing more than biased hopefulness on the part of UT fans, which is to be expected. But there are no facts to support the hope, at least not yet.

In regards to the Chizik hire, I'll blog it later tonight but here's a short preview: This is a major cluster on Auburn's part and the news couldn't be better from an Alabama standpoint.

It is absolutely hilarious to me that Auburn just hired the guy that is #3 on coacheshotseat.com. Given the way Auburn fans are reacting, my take is he stays on the hot seat.
Maybe the Barners are just looking for someone to fill the job for a year till they can get Weiss from Notre Dame next year. :)

Re: Gene Chizik will be the next Auburn coach

Could it be that Chizik is the only person that would take the job. Just wondering. I really don't believe they had a lot of big name coaches knocking the door down begging for the job. Would like others opinions.
Yes, I think you are right. Chizik knows there are no dumber folks than Auburn and he is laughing all the way to the bank, now. He will play it for what he can get out of it.

Iowa State should be glad they are losing him with that record.

The barn may have made a bone head move here, but he just became an instant millionaire and is set for life; even if his tenure is short lived. At least, he can laugh all the way to the bank.

From Auburn's prospective, how could they do this? He has only won five games in two years, and none this year in the Big 12. From Auburn's prospective, that has got to hurt.
Yes, you have got to give Chizik credit. How could a person warrant such a deal from the position he is in?

Lots of coaches around the country will be asking," What is it with this guy?"

What has he done that is so great?

The answer is, he is willing to to "cow down" to the Man from awburn.
