My post was not meant to challenge CC, but was wondering if he had followed Tipton on X enough to gauge his reliability. Love his post. Was wondering how much trust to give it. That's all.

Tipton is the most solid source out there for basketball recruiting. Having said that, AJ will end up at BYU. That is from a source I trust as one of the top insiders around. They have too much money.

Tipton at On3 is pretty reliable. To be honest, we don’t need the pressure of having the best player in the country. History shows us that doesn’t work out. We would rather have some hungry types that want to prove themselves. Not someone who’s just on a pitstop to the NBA as the number one pick. I know he’s phenomenal. But, something tells me we’re better off without him.

@CajunCrimson, I could easily jump on that train of thought with you. The more I read about the circus that has been AJ's recruitment, the more I'm leaning the same direction. :)

I still want a 5* in this class. If we can get Mikel Brown, then I will be satisfied, but if not, then I really really want Dybantsa.

With all due respect, if Nate wants him, so do I.

I'm with you on Mikel Brown, Jr. He would be a good addition.

FWIW, based on what I have read recently, from a variety of places, we are still in the mix for Dybantsa.

We know the reported BYU offer for AJ is around $4.5M and we know we are not going to pay that much. AJ needs to figure out if he wants to take the up front money for the one and done year or go to Bama and get better prepared for the NBA. The #1 overall picks 1st contract is worth $12m/annually and then the next one if they are performing well can triple or quadruple the 1st contract.

I don't know about you but Harper for the Rutgers was the #2 player in the country last year and was rated just below Flagg. I would take him in a heart beat right now!

FWIW, concerning Dybantsa:

I've included the link, but there is no new info in the article other than the title statement. :)

If he indeed was there, I would like to think BAMA left a favorable impression on him. :)

Saw this on Twitter last night. Game couldn't have hurt our cause because it looked like Bama and UNC are on two very divergent paths.

Supposedly BYU has deeper NIL pockets...so there's that.

You don't have to watch AJD very long to see he's a Brandon Miller clone, maybe even on steroids. He's almost identical in size and has a similar game.

He can do it all: bring the ball up the court in transition, shoot 3s and midranges, go STRONG to the hoop, and finish with authority.

Two things he might already be better than Miller at right now:

1. Strength to get to the rim and finish, which was something BM struggled with the 1st 3rd of his one-and-done season.

2. High release point on his shot. BM has a lower release point, which concerned some NBA scouts IIRC. AJD releases the ball much higher essentially making his 6'10" frame harder to guard off the ball on the perimeter.

Dude is obviously a one and done. If I'm CNO I put AJ in a room watching BM tape and say this is who you are and now we have the pieces around a player like you that we didn't have when Brandon was here to go win a NC and you can be a lottery pick from the country's best conference.

I don't know how much our NIL collective can pay the guy but if we can get closer to BYU's offer it would be worth it to the program. He's literally the type of player who could be a star among our stars! And CNO already has a track record of recruiting this type of player!

Another thing about AJD:

He's from Massachusetts so Utah/BYU doesn't hold any heartstrings. They may control some good pursestrings but what's a reported 4.5 million NIL deal when in one year you'll be signing for 50+ million. BTW, Brandon Miller's rookie contract was a 4 year, 50 million pull. Over 12 mill a year.
