Alabama QB competition article

And - so, it's in the open...

I read al.com before coming over here and immediately thought, here goes another 200 responses. Evidently JH's feelings are hurt -- Is he unappreciated? Sounds like it...Are he and CNS on the same page? Not sure...but my take is that TT is the unofficial starter and JH does not like it. I don't blame him...I would be disappointed if he did like it.

Of course he shouldn't "like it" if he feels Tua is the starter, but crying to the media is not how you change it and I'm pretty sure CNS will agree.

His odds of beating out Tua were slim because of their passing skills, but now he's gone and started a media war with CNS.

In all of CNS's years at Bama, I don't recall one player, much less someone in such a high stakes competition, doing something like this.

I agree...and that's a war he cannot win...ever. He is doing himself in before fall practice even begins.

I still can't believe it. I had to watch it like 4 times. This may be the fastest we've ever seen a STAR player/starter/leader go from the Penthouse to the Dog House.

It might not be long before Mac is with the 2's.

I honestly do hate how this has developed.

All of us that have come to the realization that Tua is the better QB have still acknowledged that Jalen is an incredible Athlete and person and we all love him and appreciate everything he's tried to do in leading our team.

We've even tried to debate if he could play another position or play a 2nd half role in finishing teams off running the ball at QB.

I'm just in shock at his actions and words today. That wasn't the Jalen we know or are use to hearing.

I agree with what you said. I can't believe some of Jalen's interview, but he is human. I would love to be a fly on the wall when he and Saban do have their talk.

I know Saban will not be too happy with some of Jalen's interview, but he has been loyal to Jalen the past two years. We really don't know what kind of relationship they have but Jalen certainly did not help things today. He said "I" too much, did not seem like a team player/leader, and mentioned the coaching staff.... all of which should have been said in a private conversation, not to the media.

I wonder if Jalen's dad was at Fan Day today or at least in T'Town?

Hey - he's human. He's earned the right to gripe a little. Yes, I realize making it public is not good optics. But as usual the media blows everything out of proportion.

Rat poison.....

Don't think the media did any blowing. Look at the interview, if you haven't...

Nailed it.

I guess I could be mean as one of his advocates, but......when a guy can do in one half (plus two plays) what you couldn't do in 28 games, I don't understand the idea that this is even an issue.

Starters lose their jobs ALL THE TIME. I realize QB is a unique position, but Hurts won his position fair and square over the other dudes - and he's really lost it fair and square as well. Best players play - no exceptions.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

Hurts himself beat out players with more experience (at least in the program) and held on to the job during 2017 based on his performance. By now he knows his own limitations, and he is well aware that Coach Saban will do what’s best for the team.

This situation is obviously disappointing for him because of the last two seasons ending in the championship game. Here’s hoping Hurts will continue to work hard and have a good attitude. The team will need it, and he may find himself back on the field at a moment’s notice if Tua is indeed the starter.

True. I've looked over and over at Jalen's interview and I just don't know what the coaches could - or should - have done which would have satisfied him and made him happy. I fear that the only thing would have been to tell him he was the starter and they obviously couldn't have done that. What else? Pat his hand and tell him "There, there?" I'm lost. Anyone have any what would have mollified his feelings?

If this in fact the case, then I go back to what I said earlier in this thread, Jalen's continued presence, if he is relegated to backup and mop duty, will not be healthy for the team. If he really feels this way then he should go ahead and transfer.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

Well I posted a lengthy post in the other thread that got removed in order to keep all the QB discussion here. Fortunately, or unfortunately I am not going to try to rewrite it all here again. In summary, CNS and both QBs made a mistake this spring and summer not sitting down together and discussing what was going to happen this offseason. They all let things fester without talking them out. I hate this happened this way and they all will regret not taking the time to talk this out behind closed doors. Hopefully, everyone learns something from this experience. Avoiding confrontation and touchy topics on a team is not a good idea. They need to be talked out behind closed doors so that everyone is on the same page and does not let things build up even more.

Really suprised this did not happen this spring. Makes sense now from some of the things I have heard about the QBs distancing themselves from the coaches. This needs to be fixed today and we all should never hear word of it from here forward. Not likely to happen this way.

He’s a man now...... shouldn’t need anyone to hold his hand or smooth out any ruffled feathers...... go to the coaches and handle his business

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

Jalen is bitter, Tua is trying to improve every day, and Mac should be taking snaps with the twos.
