Imo...it feels eerily similar to the Sugar Bowl year before last. Not much talk about the teams, coaches, player matchups, nothing about our practices or overall health. About the only thing I know on our player status is that Barron is out, but how is Ingram and Richardson's knees, and Upshaw and Marcel's ankles? It was obvious these guys were below 100% toward the end of the season. I could be wrong, but I'm not feeling that Bama vibe from the fanbase that we usually have and it feels just like it did before the Sugar bowl with Utah.

i think as a fan base (at least as far as tidefans is a representation of our fan base) we are primarily concerned with the barn. sad.

Part of me is excited because I get to watch ONE MORE Bama game before the dead season. Then another part of me has the same feeling I had before the 2008 Sugar Bowl. Visions of faltering offensive lines are dancing in my head. When one of your team's problems is a faltering OL then you can never be totally excited about a game. Because as we all know a faltering WR corps doesn't have nearly the impact on the outcome of a game as does a faltering OL.

Practices didn't start until today, so there's not been that much to discuss.

Personally, I'm looking forward to it. Should be a fun trip and a good game, so I'll do my part. Fans aside, I hope our team is ready. The Michigan State players are already talking this up as their "BCS Bowl" since they were snubbed in favor of an Ohio State University and Wisconsin, so I doubt they'll be suffering from a let down.

All this barn nonsense is pretty pathetic, but I think we're just a spoiled fanbase. If we don't make it to the NC game, we're not as excited/enthused and don't care to talk much about the bowl game.

I also think we got a lot of bandwagon fans last year that caused the traffic/# of posts on this board to skyrocket. Now that they've jumped off, things have slowed down a bit again. It's funny, if you look at threads from '06, there would be like 5 responses over 3 days and the thread would die. Success tends to boost forum traffic ;)

Thanks for the practice update. If you hadn't mentioned it, I would not have known it. That's my point for the topic.

If we were playing Oklahoma, Notre Dame, or even Michigan with the same record Michigan State has, we would be way more excited. We have no history with them, but we don't get to choose who we play.

I'm looking forward to another Bama game to close out the year. I hope they get in some good practices and get things tight. I also hope they get mentally prepared for this game because Michigan State is hyping it up. Roll Tide!!

First off there are NO circumstances in which we blow a 24-0 lead to lose the iron bowl in which people feel good afterward. Its not gonna happen. Add to that the sick feeling we all have knowing that we've been sold out by the NCAA regarding the Cam Newton Violations.

As for the bowl game. I don't see much comparison, Utah was some freakin mid major apponent, we lost our left tackle before the game and our only other decent lineman in the first series. This was not a great line to begin with so at this point it was positively high school.

This year we are playing a BCS conference co-champion with only one loss. Short of a BCS game this is as good as it gets. We have more depth everywhere as well so one injury shouldn't derail us playing a competitive game.

I'm pretty excited actually, and I like the matchup. I hope we don't underestimate the Spartans, I think they're pretty solid; I watched several of their games. They aren't flashy, but they have a heady qb and play well as a team. They sort of reminded me a bit of Bama in 08 or even Bama in 05, just finding ways to win. Good solid team, imo.
Throw in the Nick Saban's old team, the Saban/Dantonio coaching history and two really good teams who have never played each other before, it all makes for one of the better bowl matchups, imo.

I expect that discussions of the game and matchups will pick up as the game gets closer.

I am looking forward to it as much as I would any other game. No, the excitement of a possible championship isn't there, but it's a New Year's Day bowl game nonetheless. I am hopeful that the long layoff will allow the coaches and the team to rest up and do a lot of necessary self-scouting and I'm anxious to see what new wrinkles we may see against Michigan State.

It's a chance to add another 10 win season and bowl win to the resume and I hope we take advantage of that.

I'm excited about the game! I'm not going to Orlando. (wish I could, but I think I'll save money for the BCSCG next year, though. ;))
But I cannot wait for it. Michigan State is Saban's old team, and they've got only one loss. We're favored by 10 points. It's looking good. Barron is out, but I don't think it'll be a problem as long as McElroy is able to be at QB.

To be quite honest, I am really looking forward to watching the National Championship, but not as much as ours of course. It's going to be an amazing match-up between two amazing teams.

But so is the Capital One Bowl. :D

Practices just started so there hasn't been much to discuss. Once we get some practice reports, then you will see more excitement.

I'm a little detached, but that's because I'm a little stressed at the moment, and because I won't be able to watch the game until we get back from DisneyWorld. But it's a great matchup, and a win will soothe a lot of open wounds from the season.
