As expected, Clowney picks USCe

Yeah, a lot of folks from South Carolina said his dad couldn't leave the state, or something along those lines.

I just wanted to express why I don't think it will happen. It is very ironic to me that Facebook posters swayed CK to Bama and that a tweet finally convinced me to believe that Clowney will not sign with Bama. ;)

Mr. Clowney must consider one thing regarding Bama before signing. He has the opportunity to turn what will be among the best teams in the country into among the best teams in college football history. That will not happen at USCe or Clemson. His addition will make either a contender but will bring them to where this Alabama team should be, even without his talents. So ... parity or history? Tough decision. Either way, I look forward to watching the man play ball, I just hope it will be every weekend.
 
Good, maybe now people will move on. Clowney was never coming to Bama IMHO anyway, and besides we put the cherry on top of our tremendous class today with Cyrus. Our class is done IMHO, and I couldn't be happier with it.

Carroll confirmed that Alabama is not as strong with Clowney at this point. "It's not because of Alabama's legacy or anything like that," Carroll said. "It's the proximity thing. He's just not sure he wants to make that long ride." USC and Clemson are the top two with Clowney as of Saturday night , and as he has throughout this process, Carroll said again he feels Clowney is the Gamecocks to lose. "That's what my gut feeling is," he said. "He's not saying a whole lot. I think he pretty much knows where he wants to go though."

It would have been great to add this young man to our class. I think we will be more than ok because Coach Saban is bring in 5 4 star defensive ends. Not so long ago we would be happy to have 5 4 stars in the whole class.

Before this class is through with its four or five year stay in Tuscaloosa, I am guessing that there will be several guys who turn out to be the "icing on the cake". This is just another great class brought in by Saban and his staff. We now have top 10, number one, number one, top 5, and number one classes over the last five years. I am amazed.

As far as the tweets about Clowney eliminating Bama..I'm no insider, but somehow I find that hard to believe at this juncture. Eh, not very optimistic about our chances but still looks good to see him with that cap on in this vid.

Obviously Bama fans would love to have Clowney join the team. Unfortunately right now it looks like to most followers of this situation that the Bama hat that he is wearing will just be a hat on the table when he picks SC on Feb. 14th.

Exactly. Its been pointed out probably a dozen times that the report that came out about Clemson and South Carolina being his finalists came directly from Clowney, not his coach, and not a friend or acquaintance. Now, unless he is just trying to be the biggest shock of the recruiting season, he isn't coming to Bama. If he does, I'll do jumping jacks when I hear about it. But, I would suggest that everyone should lower their optimism and not get their hopes up on this one.

Maybe I am being overly optimistic, but at this point I think JC is just letting the media think or say what they want to, and I think we are still very much in it, or he has already decided to go to USCe, JMHO! I really hope CK is in his ear big time, and he decides to ROLL with the good guys!
 
I vote to just lock this thread until about 4AM on Feb 14, and then re-open it. Nothing will get accomplished in between. I'm sure Saban and Co. are doing what they can to pull JC this way, and whatever happens happens. We have a fantastic class now, and it can only get better if he signs with us. We're good to go either way. Roll Tide, and congrats to our staff for another successful recruiting class. I can only imagine how hard they worked, especially having to fight off the negative recruiting by the barners.

We've given it a good fight but pulling SC kids out of the state is VERY tough. It took us several years to get 1 DB out of the state. I'd written JC off weeks ago when we got Dickson's pledge at the all star game. Then I really figured we'd missed when we took Pagan on NSD. I don't want to be a debbie-downer, but all signs point to him ending up somewhere other than Bama.

I don't see any reason to close this thread. It is open for discussion. If some folks want to keep up hope that Clowney will sign with Bama I see nothing wrong with that. Obviously things could change between now and the 14th also.
 
Do you think there is any chance that CK could pull JC Bama's way? It fairly obvious they have a great relationship to point one would consult the other for advice.
