Bad QB play affected many units tonight

There is a place for Milroe, but it's not at quarterback. Making poor decisions and holding the ball too long is a receipe for disaster. He is a good runner, so maybe he should convert to a running back.

A QB that can scramble and turn a broken play into positive yardage is kinda the "new prototypical" QB (see Jalen Hurts/Patrick Mahomes, etc.).

But those guys can also throw the football down the field and move the chains. Their feet make them dangerous ONLY because their passing HAS TO BE RESPECTED.

As last week, I really think the poor snaps from center are affecting his timing on short throws and timing routes.
I’m not supporting the QB by this remark, but if you begin a play with your eyes down , you aren’t watching wher the initial rush is coming from, where the safeties are moving or what direction the Mike is leaning. Those are the beginning stages of reading the defense and just losing that half second when you need to get rid of the ball in 4 seconds is critical.

Milroe did the best he could, and as others have said he shouldn’t shoulder all the blame last night. With that said, there is no doubt he is a great athlete, but continuing his playing career as a D1 qb just isn’t his future in my opinion.

If the preseason camp talk is true, let’s go with Lonergan and live with the ups and downs and hopefully see some continuous improvement in the offense.

Mahomes and Jalen are passers first. Their feet are a nice addition to a dominant passing game

Milroe owns his share of the blame no doubt, but if anyone couldn't see the offensive line problems from botched snaps, getting caved in play after after play blowing the play up before it even started, then you've already made your mind up to blame Milroe for every wrong doing on offense. Bryce Young, Tua, Jones and definitely college version Hurts, would have gotten killed last night. Our offensive line turned into a joke last night getting physically beaten all night. That, in some sense, is a greater concern to me than the QB position.
It literally has nothing to do with “making up minds” before the game. That is ridiculous.

It's ridiculous to think or suggest Milroe was THE problem on offense last night. Which is Exactly what several here continue to do. The offensive line was a complete clown show and to not acknowledge that fact is definitely making their mind up that milroe is going to be the problem, no matter what.

I agree with you here somewhat. I don't think one is devoid of the other. Ergo...I do think think a QB change last night would have changed the outcome. If you don't...that's fine...we just disagree.
I think a QB change def should have been made. But how our OL was getting owned I l'm not sure how much better we'd done because we'd lost a lot of mobility from Milroe to Buchner and the Sacks may have gone from 5 to 10. But who knows, the game sucked all the way around

Milroe ran into a few sacks. You’re right the OL was bad, but when that happens you need someone who is a true QB in order to feel the rush and slide out of the way. Mac and Bryce had that. Milroe does not.

The OL does have its contributions in this loss. The low snaps throws the timing of the plays and the two holding penalties cost Alabama 14 points. But even when Milroe was given time he holds on to the ball to long and is indecisive. Milroe’s two interceptions gave Texas 10 points. Change those 4 plays and Alabama wins by at least 20. I think one of the holding calls Alabama got a FG out of it so without the holding calls they would have had 11 more points.

The problem is Bryce and Mac are in the NFL and it appears we have come up snake eyes with the QB recruitment post BY. Maybe one of the freshman can fill the gap later in the year or next year.

Totally agree. It’s clear Milroe is what he is at this point. He’s in year 3 and isn’t likely to get better. I’m mostly disappointed in Saban because he didn’t even try to make a change when it was clearly not going to work with Milroe.

Naw, lions share of the Oline problems came between tackles, the Murphy guy or whoever it was for Texas playing the interior DL got penetration just about every play. The right guard consistently got manhandled or beat off the snap. Utter crap performance by the OL
What I couldn’t understand is why to coaches allowed dalcourt to continue to play. They didn’t even try to sub in someone to see. Dalcourt has had problems blocking for years. Ferguson was supposed to set some snaps and he played less than a few sanps

If Milroe wants to continue his football playing career, he needs to change positions. I don't know how good his hands are but he would deadly in the slot. Give him a jet sweep. He is too athletic for us not to find some way to utilize him.

We had a package, and ran it a couple of times, where we had Tua and Jalen on the field at the same time. Maybe some wing-T concepts with a passing halfback.

I saw an OL that held out the Texas defense like a screen door holds out water. Plus the multiple poor snaps. And yes, I saw two interceptions and two more passes that should have been intercepted. Not Milroe's or the OL's best day.

But I can't shake the notion that Milroe is another Cam Newton once he gets the passing game sorted out. Probably an unpopular opinion.... At any rate, I'd start Milroe next week and see if he's learned anything from yesterday. Next week would be his... what... third start?
