Re: Duke game

I for one don't think we should "buy-out" the Duke game. It was a scheduling snafu by Moore, one of the few he's made and I believe we should honor our horrible decision and play the game. It sickens me when teams such as Hawaii, Boise and other smaller teams have contracts with big time schools, look forward to those particular games for YEARS and then only have the team buy them out as soon as it comes time for them to play the game. I'll never forget 2007 when Hawaii had Michigan State and Texas buy-out on their contracted games. Surely we wouldn't have had to witness that embarrassing game in the Sugar Bowl that year hadn't not been for these silly buy-outs.

It's officially the off-season.... the first of 10,000 scheduling threads has begun.
Yeah shake, Duke was a powerhouse when Ted Roof (now Barn def cor) was the coach and the coach before him. ;) The game was scheduled when Duke was a doormat. The only times Duke has been a challenging team to play was under Wallace Wade and later Steve Spurrier (briefly). Cannot blame Moore for not being able to look into the future.

I don't agree. Duke fulfilled their end of the h/h deal, we should do the same. Probably will be a sloppily-played game by our guys because it will be against such a physically inferior opponent that will be hard to get up for, but it should be a neat road trip for our fans. The only time that I remember us going to play a game on Tobacco road was against NC State, I think, during Stallings' final season.

unlike when we played them under shula, next year's team will likely be able to run on their hands backwards and beat duke...wherever we play them.

i really dont see any reason to be concerned playing duke. they are a average division one team, and having a week off that early in the season will not make much difference. after all, we are playing tenn the next week, and believe me, they are not going to be as good as the one we played in 09. they need a qb, they lost hardesty, rico mccoy, big dan williams, three starting off linemen, eric berry, and rogan has opted for the nfl. not the one to be concerned about.

Re: Duke game

How about USC-Bama in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic in 2013? That is no dream. It is as close as dotting "i's" and crossing "t's" to being announced. The Atlanta Sports Council, of which I am a member, has a tenative agreement with USC to play in that game in 2013 or 2014. They want to play Bama.
Alabama plays Georgia Tech in 2013 and 2014. I would think Alabama/U$C would be doable. I know this is a game the fans would love to see.

I don't mean to get off the subject, but who is going to be playing in the kick-off classic in Atlanta over the next couple of years? There was talk of LSU/North Carolina at one time. Can anyone answer this?

I believe LSU/North Carolina is the game next year.

Seems like Tennessee was involved in another one... perhaps against NC State?

Re: Duke game

I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid. And no, UA is not better than that "stuff". Coach Bryant bought out of an SMU game one year for essentially the same reason. He realized it was not smart to take his team on the road to a school with a small stadium when there was a better alternative.

Your acting like we are going to Norman or something. We are talking about Duke. Man up play the schedule that was made. Your going to have tough schedules some years. Not all the breaks are going to go our way.

Re the original thread topic -
My wife and I plan to do our part to help buy out the Duke game. It'll be the first game we've attended since the NC State game in Raleigh a few years ago.

I think we should play. Who knows.... maybe with all the hoopla around this game and $$ generated for Duke...we could get an away game for CAG in basketball. Give him 2 years, he will be ready...just a thought.

I believe they will play in 2013 because Bama plays GT at home and USC has 5 conference home games. 2014 would not be good for either for the exact reverse reasons. In 2014, Bama is at GT, and USC plays 5 conference games away.

Actually in 1990 we played at what was then called SW Louisiana, The Ragin' Cajuns! I remember Bebes and company were taken back a bit of the fact that Curry and I believe Steve Sloan (AD) had scheduled this return game.

If you are wanting to see a great stadium then Wallace Wade is not the place to go.
I went there for a Ga Tech game in 01 or 02. Talk about a high school stadiums this is for you. I did not even know we were getting close to the stadium. There are no decks, buildings or signs. The only reason I knew were we close to the stadium was the smell of funnel cakes and light poles.
The stadium is dug into the ground. when you come in you are at the top of the stadium and the field is way down the steps. The restrooms were only located in two sections. One of the east side the other on the west. If you sat in the horseshoe then it was a long walk to the 1940 era restrooms.
It is kind of like Vandy in a way. The students and fans do not get to the stadium till kickoff. Tailgating was nice since it was only $5 to park and we had alot of beverages but it was more of an church type crowd. Good food but little if any excitment.
I do not know if they still have this but you could re-enter the stadium. If you got your hand stamped you could go outside the stadium and re-enter. this was nice since we took the half-time to involve ourself in adult beverages and then re-enter.
Overall it was a big disappointment. But I guess everyone has to see the 'hole in the ground' sometime in their life.

This is not a slam to Duke Fans -- cause their fans were nice. I was expecting more than a smaller version of Vanderbilt stadium. And the funnel cakes were great,

I could be wrong but I think Bear Bryant scheduled this game. If I am not mistaken one of his former players was coaching at SW LA. And Bear was the one that gave him the return game. It was something like a three and one series over a ten year period. The game was actually schedule earlier in the 80's but was pushed back a few years due to scheduling conflicts.
But could be incorrect. It was a long time ago.

The official seating capacity of Wallace Wade Stadium is 33,941.

Please, please move the game to Charlotte. Alabama fans would fill Panther stadium.

Let's let the Keenan Allens of North Carolina get a first hand look at a champion.

This post was written from Albemarle NC which is located approximately 90 miles from Durham and 40 miles from Charlotte. Either way, I will be there.

I would be there for that game as it is now going to be near impossible to get a ticket with those numbers.
