Yeah but here’s the thing - portal closes before the quarterfinals. Georgia will not even play until then and both UTs are likely to win so they will have more to play.
That's why I said, when their season is officially over after the playoffs. the Spring portal will open up for more transfers as well as the 5-day grace period for teams in the playoffs to decide as one poster pointed out.

If we are going to pay players this kind of money, then I'm for...

- Going back to some version of single platoon football, sign and play more two-way players OL-DL crossovers,
- Reduce scholarship roster to 70 players
- Grant 5th year of eligibility thereby eliminating the redshirt.

The NCAA can do some things to limit this chaos without touching the portal or NIL, like limiting roster sizes and bringing back the academic clearinghouse. But it appears they aren't doing anything but going to the post office and the bank on a daily basis...

You wouldn't be employed long at schools like Alabama because odds are if you fill your team with 3 star players you'd be lucky to go 7-5 each year. Life is about leverage and negotiation. When you have leverage you don't need to negotiate. When you don't have leverage you better be able to negotiate. Right now the coaches do not have the leverage they once had.

Sure, they can be Billy Joe Bad Britches and tell every four and five star player who wants to negotiate to hit the road and go fill his team full of 2 and 3* players. But he won't be coaching at an elite program like Alabama because schools like Alabama aren't going to tolerate 7-5 seasons as the norm.
I'd tolerate 7-5 under those terms no problem.

Others might not but I would.

I know that.

People keep feeling the need to bring up that point.

2007 to 2017 CNS would not.

He made a mistake.... I get it.
And my point to you is that you can't hold this new guy to the same standard the greatest of all time had set.

At least not after one season. That's incredibly unfair. Especially when the GOAT himself violated his own standard in the end.

You would, but the current administration at the University of Alabama wouldn't. That's the thing, these universities are willing to play by the rules of the current landscape, which is a player-driven market. CKD (for his job's sake) cannot do what you're advocating and keep his job.

I understand that point.

My point is don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

Just because a mistake was made don't compromise or disregard the Standard that was set.

Honestly between the tampering and unlimited free agency I may go back and see if I can get interested in the NFL again. At least there they have enforceable rules and contracts that limit free agency. I used to think the salary cap was stupid, but now with what is going on it college I see the value….

@KrAzY3 with the SEC/B1G break away idea along with a collective bargaining agreement & lockdown contracts may be the only thing that can salvage “college” football. Won’t be as we know it, but at least it could be a watchable product year on year.

The issue is that it would become a revolving door of 7-5 because as soon as 3 star players prove themselves they will move on to "greener" pastures. This is becoming the FCS and non-power 4 conference recruiting pitch in the NIL/Transfer Portal world. "Come here and play for 2 years collect some NIL money here and position yourself to be picked up by a big dog the last few years for a big NIL payday". In all reality the current structure of NCAA football are not built to withstand what is happening and there will need to be significant structural changes to the way things operate in the near future. What is happening right now is barely sustainable. The Marshall situation is just the tip of the iceberg!
