I'm just sitting here watching SportsCenter, and it showed a preview for the next show, where it will name the top 5 sleepers for the 2005 season. One of the teams shown was Bama! It seems that even ESPN thinks that we have the chance to have a great season!

When is that segment going to be aired? I saw that last night, too, but I didn't catch when they said it would be on.

Sportscenter, 5PM central, tonite (Tuesday).

Other sleepers shown were Texas A&M, Penn State and I cannot remember the others.

Alabama is a pre-season top 25, with some placing us in and around the top 15.

Doesn't leave much room for us to be a "sleeper", IMO.

Tennessee,
i wished that I could share your optimism but I am scared about our inexperience on the offensive line. We have the defense and the backfield and receivers but in order for our playmakers on offense to be effective, we are going to need three redshirt freshmen to play big.

Assuming our defense can perform to similar levels as last year or better, can our offense get any worse than it was at the end of the season last year unless injuries occur like last year?

The problem for Bama is that the offense could not score last year. All they would have to be is average on offense this year and we will do well.

Bama vs Tennessee in Atlanta this year is likely.

Barring another year of devastating injuries, I think we have a chance to make some serious noise this season. I believe our first string players are talented enough to play with anyone in the country, with the exception of possibly USC. It's the depth at each position that worries me right now. It may not matter too much during the first half of the season, but we'll need some contributors to step up from the bench this year if we are going to have a truly special year.

I am encouraged to believe the O'line will be all right.

The offense should be improved (how could it not be?)

The defense should be improved. (We will have depth on the line and depth in the secondary).

Parts of the kicking game are okay, other parts are mysteries.

There is a whole bunch of Voodoo involved in picking the SEC west this year.

I think I'll wait and see how it plays out.

If the O-line stays healthy, Bama could win the west. Injuries have really plagued Bama this past season. An injury free Bama has a legitimate shot at not only the west but the SEC.

But, this is the year in the west to do it, IMO...It's like the east was a couple of years ago...It has one team that everybody seems to think will win it(LSU), as people did with UGA a couple of years ago...problem is, I don't think LSU is as strong as people are touting them...

I think with a couple of breaks, Bama takes advantage of a down year in the West

I think the "sleeper" is talking about for the National title/. I think if we win the NC it would be a shock to even the biggest Bama fan.

If you're right, then 3rd Saturday in October = 1st Saturday in December

While watching Trev Alberts' piece on Sportscenter, I noticed that tomorrow they are doing the most overrated teams....and guess who was shown....our friends in Knoxville. ;)

trev albert picks sleeper teams

tonight on espn trev picked several sleeper teams to do much better this year. he picked alabama with a strong returning defense, and brodie back to win the west division in the sec. he also picked texas a&m win 9 games this year. others penn state win 6, fla state to challenge miami and va tech in the acc. purdue a shot at big ten, since they dont play either ohio state or michigan.

Heck if Bama won the NC I can think of a few who would
streak straight across the Barn campus not to mention
the quad!
