Re: Alabama's BCS Football Trophy Shattered
Perhaps this will take that bad LSUfreek taste out of everyone's mouth:

I saw that post on the SEC Rant thread about the trophy being shattered..To be honest..That's the only forum I look at over there..Funny, I didn't see any apology from him on the fark board over there.
No longer an LSUfreek fan.
I would tell him it's a bad metaphor. This wasn't something where he broke his arm and was able to return the next year. He was fortunate not to lose his leg. I don't know how Prothro feels today, he may look back and not feel too bad about it but I can't imagine that would be the case. But as an Alabama fan, it's a very sore spot. A tragic end to a very promising career. Nothing to laugh at or with or whatever in any way, IMO.I just saw this post by LSUFreek on TD..Giving an explanation for using the Prothro pic..Still a bad use of a metapor IMO..
"Sorry. It was only intended as a similar "Bama Bad Break" metaphor, not a laugh at Prothro"..
After what the Tinker family has been through, he definitely gets a free pass on this one.Guess the player's parent was bound to be identified. He laughs about it now, but I'll bet Carson gives him a few pointers on how to grip a football.

His apology is almost worse than the initial picture. How could he possibly think that is a good metaphor.I would tell him it's a bad metaphor. That whole 05 Florida game is on youtube. I had totally forgotten that it was a 4th down play that he was injured on. All I remembered was that it was late in a blowout win. Makes it even more sad since it really didn't have to happen.
I agree, I'm more upset with LSUFreek using the Prothro picture (while usually funny, LSUFreek has taken to being unapologetic and classless), than with the trophy being broken accidentally. Especially given the devotion his son has had to the program, if the broken trophy is a trade I'll consider it a fair one. After what the Tinker family has been through, he definitely gets a free pass on this one.
Wow. LSUFreek.... you're dead to me.He isn't apologetic at all. Over on 247 Sports, he is flat out insulting Prothro and even made another gif and posted it there showing Saban with Prothros broken leg and is laughing about it all and saying he isn't sorry he did it at all. He basically hates Alabama fans and knew exactly what was up.
I don't won't to link it because I don't know all the rules here yet and don't want to make a mistake but, it's the 247 Sports board called The Blue Board and it's a fairly descriptive thread title on the front page and won't be hard to find.
It is depressing though for Alabama fans to read so, proceed with caution.
He could make fun of Alabama all he wanted and I'd laugh and enjoy it. He's the best at what he does. But he crossed a line with this, and then when he was called out on it, he dug the hole even deeper.I don't get the excitement. He is clearly an LSU fan, so he wouldn't like Alabama, right? But he still did the one with Jefferson fumbling away LSU's national championship hopes to Alabama. Gotta give him credit for even being able to do that. The stuff that he has done to ridicule my Buckeyes has been very funny.
He made one that had a single aspect that Alabama fans find offensive. Given the hundreds that he has made, and the many aspects incorporated into each, that is remarkable.
Don't take this the wrong way, but there is no way in the world that a Buckeyes fan can understand how that Prothro injury affects us as a fan base. It is pure tragedy, and heartbreaking, and you cannot justify what that "Freek" did. Some things are just not right, and this is one of them.I don't get the excitement. I get that - I guess that my point is that I take this one in the same light that I take them all - he was just trying to be funny. He could make fun of Alabama all he wanted and I'd laugh and enjoy it. Maybe a lot of people think Prothro just broke his leg in that game. It was more than a simple fracture. He is lucky he can walk today, and he never got to play another down of football because of it.
I do not take joy in any player's injury (unless they were some kind of headhunter type that had intentionally injured someone else). Whether it's just a sprained ankle or a career ending injury, I don't take joy in it. However, I would think it obvious that making light of something that ended a player's career would not be the best avenue to take.I get that - I guess that my point is that I take this one in the same light that I take them all - he was just trying to be funny.
Truth be told, I suspect that many LSU fans take some joy in Alabama player injuries (just as Michigan fans take some joy in Buckeye injuries). Is it twisted? Absolutely. But players know the risks when they step on the field. Some get rich, some get a free education that they can leverage the rest of their lives, and some get injured. But, from my perspective, the nature of Prothro's injury makes it no more tragic than any injury to any athlete that is career ending. It happens to many players every year.
Should those things be included in jokes? Probably not, but they will be, as will every other misfortune known to man.
