With all of the new documents becoming available in the last week, it's been a tough time to be an Alabama fan. Conspiracies, sting operations, setups - it's apparent that there was a real mess in Memphis.

We know now that the SEC was at best complicit and at worst a conspirator in this slimy setup. We know that Fat Fulmer had his pudgy self involved in the plot as well - and that there were a few other SEC coaches involved too. There is little question now that there was an organized effort to get Alabama in trouble with the disgustingly hypocritical NCAA.

But, and I hope this doesn't ruffle any feathers, the bottom line is that the evidence supports the notion that Logan Young was not playing by the rules. Had we not "taken the bait," this whole sordid affair could have most likely been avoided.

Don't think I'm excusing what's been done to us - I'm not! It does pain me to see folks screaming for the University to get involved in the Gallion lawsuit. That would be a tragic mistake. The NCAA has proven that they will stop at nothing to selectively prosecute those who offend them. Besides, it's not like we are going to get any scholarships or heartbreaking losses returned. All the University would accomplish is angering the NCAA.

We know the pain that this thing has caused. But now, it's a bit of a win-win at this point for the University - if Gallion loses, they were not involved and the University loses nothing. If Gallion wins and exposes the NCAA/SEC plot and players involved, then the University wins some of it's dignity back in the court of public opinion.

I don't want all of this to "go away." I want everyone involved in this sleazy plot to be exposed. We have a very bright future, and despite the NCAA's best efforts, GREAT days are ahead for this football program, this University, and its' supporters.

We have a great young coach who is recruiting well and doing things the right way. We have an AD who has raised millions of dollars and invested in much-needed facility upgrades. We have a great core of young players ready to restore Alabama to its rightful place as a yearly contender. We have the seniors of 2003 and 2004, who were wronged by men they'll never meet and, despite putting their heart and soul into this, will be counted as part of the worst seasons in our history.

Let us not forget the sacrifices that these men have made on behalf of Alabama football over the past few years. These men have been through more than we fans can ever realize. Let's get behind our guys and stay behind our guys! The unified support of the Alabama faithful will go a long way in getting this program back on track.

Give to the building fund - even if it's only a $12/month investment in Crimson Tradition (which is worth every penny I might add!). More importantly, give your support to the coaches, administrators, and players. These guys have poured blood and sweat into this program, they deserve our support. We fans will not agree with every decision they make, but we can rest assured that the people who have stuck with Alabama through this fiasco are Crimson through and through. And that's good enough to earn my support. I can only hope it's good enough to earn yours.

Let's go forward!

It does look like many things were out of control. At the same time it looks like Mr. Kramer sold out UA for the sake of "our state". The roll of the SEC should be to never let this happen again, regardless of which school it is. This is embarassing, not only to UA but the whole confrence.

I was a Bama fan then and I will remain a Bama fan.

Thanks man thats what I've been thinking for months, I hope everybody would just move on and forget about all this trial crap. We have a season coming up, time to get back to regularity around here, like having a QB controversy..... so I'll ask everybody.... Watts or Zow??

That is a pretty long bottom line, but I agree with most of it. I want the University to stay away from it, but when Fulmer/Kramer/the SEC/the NCAA get exposed it could do wonders for out public image. It may even turn that "dirty, cheating program" sentiment towards the Beacon on the Hill where it belongs.

I just want the average college football fan to hear about all this stuff, just like they were hearing about it in 2000-2002. Except then it was all negative press. Maybe ESPN, FSN, CSS could give us some positive airtime for a change. I don't think wanting the truth to be exposed is asking too much. We ARE NOT going to get anything back from the NCAA. The only thing we can get is peace of mind...and maybe some retribution against fat fil. I don't know if anything he has done is punishable by the NCAA or law enforcement authorities, but I doubt he will be touched. The only we can do is win some football games!!!

The Truth Is Out There!

I agree:

Lets take the high road here folks, we are Alabama. We took a black eye and one of our own was a loose cannon. I cannot stress enough we need to focus on the boys who have weathered this storm and remained proud to be Alabama football players. They have ever bit as much of a champions heart as any NC team we have ever fielded. You all know the Bear is proud of these young men and we need to focus our efforts in support and let them send our message to Tennessee, Auburn, LSU and the rest of the country. Roll Tide Roll!

This is not...

specifically directed at posters in this thread, but I've always been a bit puzzled as to exactly what "move on" posters want. UA has absolutely no control over these litigations. I have absolutely no control also. What then am I to do, to "move on?" Not read the headlines? Not comment on them, if I do? What?? "Move on" is basically non-sensical for the typical Bama fan at this point. We are basically spectators, with no power to move on or to move anywhere. Beyond that, I do think there are facts yet to come out that will help UA avoid this happening in the future...

I think it just means to accept these litigations as happening beyond our control, and close the book for now. Now that the direct affects of these sanctions are nearly done (once we get four years of full recruiting rosters reloaded), the future of Alabama football is the stage to "move on" to. That's how I look at it, anyhow.

Sigh...

I knew it was futile. WHAT do you want the average fan to do? I can't dismiss the lawsuits. UA can't dismiss the lawsuits. Shall I burn the morning paper when it has material related to it? I believe that people have become so accustomed to substituting cliche's for thinking that they've gone blind. Do you still not understand what I'm saying? "Close the book." Are you going to do it?

I agree with HSV. I find it all very interesting at this point and look for anything possible that helps Alabama, the team and school. I understand that LY was messy. I understand someone took the bait. I am still going to continue to pay close attention to the trial and what comes of it because it concerns Alabama.

While I'm not suggesting 100% divestment from the matter, I know that for me, this season is going to be purely about football. I've gained a little sense of closure with these recent developments, but that closure is a limited one. In my eyes, there is still a blood debt to be paid, and while the court of public opinion may like the reinstatement of Alabama's name, what would clear any debate is an all out massacre of whom we play on the field. While it isn't going to happen this year (I am hoping for great strides in improvement, however, and a great, fun season), we are on our return to glory.

Victories against these top SEC teams will resonate in every court regarding Alabama's image and football success. I don't paint my face or do the rammer jammer in the courtroom (not yet anyway, I will one day be a lawyer though), but I can for football, and I will. That blood debt will be paid, in full, in orange, in vengence.

Hey

Hey TIDE-HSV,

I'm a longtime fan of you and your posts, and I wanted to chime in again on this...

I'm not saying "move on"...I want everything to come out in this case and those who had a hand in this plot to be exposed...I agree with ZepTide when he said to point some of the bad pub up towards ol' Rocky Flop.

My post was meant more for those who are jumping up and down for the University to get involved in this litigation. I don't want us to just forget what happened, far from it. I just hope that everyone realizes that we aren't out of the woods with this just yet, and our football program needs our undivided support. The support the program angle was what I was really trying to get across in my "bottom line" that turned into a novel.

I've just come...

to terms with the fact that I have no control over the process at all. I can't "move on." It's bascially a silly suggestion. I'm not sure what people making the request want from the rest of us. I'm just the same as I've been the last several years - watching a slow-motion train wreck. There is more to come out. Some of it may help UA's image as it goes to how we were treated. Some matter may come out, which has not heretofore come out, which can damage our image further. In any case, none of us has the slightest control over events at this point. Therefore, strident talk about our "moving on" is just simply puzzling. Like we could take a vote or something...

I'm obviously frustrated...

I have already gone ballistic today over this subject so don't feel bad Earle. I want to see the guy with a magic wand that can make it disappear. And the case Gallion will be presenting isn't the end of it. There is more to come so those that don't like it might as well back their ears and get ready to see more. The press is going to keep printing it and posters will keep putting it on message boards. That is moving on for me.

When the trial starts there will be a dedicated thread each day just like the Logan Young trial so all of those that want to "move on" can "move on" to the next thread. Till then, it's pretty easy to see what each thread is about. If it's something you want to "move on" from, please do.

"Moving on" is like trying not to look at the car wreck on the freeway as you pass by. You just can't help it - ya gotta look.

With the NBA season over, there's not much in sports. This is at the least some more interesting than pro baseball. yawn

I feel your pain...Again, I'm not suggesting that we have any power to do anything to "move on"...except support our coaches and players more than ever...That's all I was getting at...Like I said in my original post, I don't want all of this to go away - I want the truth to shine on all of the shadowy figures in this mess. Sorry for any confusion on where I stand.

I agree totally, I see no logic in the term move on, The sactions have all been done and have brought UA down very far as they were intended to do. Yes,4-9,6-6 etc. To be honest I just want to know the truth and let the chips fall as they will. Also,I do believe LY was out of control as many other SEC boosters still are. I just am sick of hearing the other schools pretend they are clean!

True, and when it's some other program taking a beating by the NCAA they will be screaming like stuck pigs, tigers and coon hounds themselves. At that time I hope our fans will give them a blank stare.

The rape job LSU took in basketball would make you think they would understand but reading their message boards they haven't got a clue. In fact they aren't even looking for a clue.

Thank you. You just put all this long ranting into two simple lines. ;)
