All that needs to be said:

Brent Calloway quote:
“I’ve seen the depth at linebacker at Alabama, and it’s stiff,” he said during an interview with Rivals. “And there are guys who are twice my size, and who have played this position for so long now. So that’s why I’m making a point where I say, hey, I should just go (to Auburn) and play running back.”

This is my major problem with the commitments that kids give programs nowadays. The depth chart has been the exact same for how many months now? And suddenly, on the day he has a national stage, he decides to let the world know about it? It's guys like these that make you want to have an early signing period. BTW, with that comment, I'm like others on this thread... I don't want him, or any other kid, on our squad who's scared of competition... regardless of the amount of stars beside his name.

You call it being scared. I call it being a realist. TomAYto. TomAHto. Check this out. Here's who's on the roster next year at all linebacker positions including Jack LB

2008 - Dont'a Hightower 4* , Courtney Upshaw 4*, Jerrell Harris 4*
2009 - Nico Johnson 5*, Tana Patrick 4*
2010 - CJ Mosely 4*
2011 - Trey DePriest 5*, Shannon Brown 4*, LaMichael Fanning 4*, Xzavier Dickson 4*

And that doesn't count the 3-star guys like Petey Smith, Jonathan Atchison, and Vinnie Sunseri. That's definitely a crowd. And like he said, he's definitely undersized...and we wanted him to play safety. He may not be comfortable with that. At Auburn, all he has in front of him is Dyer. He's a twisted ankle from seeing the field at the position that he wants to play.

And here's something to kind of put this in perspective. We've burned 21 pages on this kid. You know how many times a year we have to worry about him? 1. Meanwhile, we have a talent rich class coming in that we are going to concern ourselves with from the time they fax in their LOI until they play their final collegiate games. Just sayin..
I think you've got Fanning confused with someone else... Fanning is 6'6 285lbs and supposed to play DE... ;)

PokeChop-Like ur posts, especially this one. Still laughing at opening line..haven't heard much said bout the talent we already have, Mosley, Hightower, Patrick. This is linebacker U, and we are already stacked. Losing Calloway is no biggie. The kid didn't look all there in the cranium anyway. If I get to Hueytown, gonna buy you a cold one
you smell of cow or you're in uber-panic mode.

does it suck to lose him, yes. this will not kill our class though, as saban has showed in years past, he'll bring in someone new and that will be it. Calloway may go onto to be great, he may bust and thats the potential with every prospect. We will also wrap up this class as a top three recruiting class either way.

its stings to lose him to the cows and i hate that i must now hate him and pull for his downfall. but to act like this kills the recruiting class is an overstatement.

Actually he would have to beat out Fannin, McCalebb and whoever else they may land at RB this year to see the field at RB so the depth chart would be an issue there regardless. If he has to switch to LB there, it's among guys that are pretty much his size right now.

At the end of the day, it is his decision to go where he wants to go but it does just seem a little questionable at this point and time that he decides to drop his commitment and go to Bama's main rival just because of Bama's depth at LB BUT instead of going their to play LB he wants to play RB?

C.J. came in AND played as a true freshmen ... what does that have to do with depth chart at all? If a player comes in here at ANY position, works hard AND importantly learns how to play their position ... they will play. Either way it goes I wish the young man good luck and wherever he goes, I just recommend he just work hard. Playing time is not guaranteed to anyone without it.

I can understand Callaway committing to the barn if he wants to play RB. We will be loaded with supreme RB's with Dee Hart and possibly Crowell so it isn't a given that he would see playing time as a RB. CNS wanted him to play LB and we are stacked there too with Trey Depriest and HaHa coming in, so it wasn't a given that he was good enough or smart enough to see a whole lot of playing time there either. I wish him the best and no hard feelings, the guy wanted to play and the barn is losing a lot to graduation so he will prolly see more playing time there. Too bad they will be on probation by his junior year and will post a losing season next year.

If he wanted an NC ring he should have stuck with BAMA!

So, Calloway wants to play a position (RB) where those guys that are "twice as big" as him will tackle him every time he touches the football. This sounds like a logical young man!

Makes perfect sense to me...
(shaking head)

Oh well. Good luck Mr Calloway.

As a LB in high school he had 24 tackles and 1 sack, that was his stat line his senior yr. Granted he was a rb first so didn't play LB as much but only 24 tackles shows that he doesn't have the instincts to play that position and would need a few years to get in line and if he came to UA there would be guys that come in with immediate talent and LB instincts that would skip him i.e. Kwon Alexander and Ragland. This was the best decision for him and probably for us b/c he would've just ended up transferring.

And can I say god I hope Kwon Alexander comes to UA

Not sure whether I'm ready to move on. I actually feel happy losing him as a RB and get Dee instead. However, the way he decommit and the way he commits to AU still bothers me a little bit. But I guess I'll completely get over it as soon as we get IC...

EXACTLY!!! I guess he's going to enroll in sociology. He doesn't sound very bright......

Oh and YES, his name will soon be forgotten as all the other de-commits have. This HAS happened before. I remember the last 2 years losing someone, but couldn't tell u who they were or where they went. lol

Will Lowery isn't afraid of competition. I bet CNS tells these guys that they can take their stars and shove em straight up their and that they don't mean anything once the hitting starts. Some of these guys can handle and thrive with that type of challenge. Some can't. I would much rather this type of thing happen as opposed to someone who sulks and complains for a couple of years and then transfers.
