Re: Carlos Dunlap arrested for DUI (out for SECCG?)

I don't think the '96 media is in anyway the same as the '09 media. If this were something other than a DUI they may let it die, but in todays world a DUI is a very serious matter. The sports media may drop it, but I'd bet there are orgs out there like MADD and SADD that are watching the developments.
You don't think domestic violence against women is as bad as DUI? NOW and several other feminist organizations were up in arms. Phillips drug her by the hair down three flights of stairs, into the parking lot and beat her. 1996 may not have had a 24 hour news cycle like now and wasn't dominated by ESPN quite as much, but still this was a pretty big issue and received quite a bit of publicity. Nebraska won, Phillips went on to the NFL to flop and Osbourne got elected to Congress. I think the outcry from playing Dunlap would be much less than what Osbourne faced. Nebraska fans were happy with their back to back NCs and didn't care.

That is the point I was talking about. The LP situation would be alot different in this day and age.

I saw Asleep at the Wheel play at the Grand Ole Opry in 05:Smiliz_Kingz_PDT_14 This kid has to be really stupid to jepordize everything for a night out on the town and then get caught by my man. I really doubt this kid will play against us, but stranger things have happened.

My point was to agree with GCT, don't say "Meyer can't play Dunlap or it will kill his credibility" because there is precedent with him and other coaches, such as Osbourne that they can play these guys and not suffer any adverse consequences. I'm not sold on the idea that things have changed so dramatically in 13 years, that Meyer is not at least considering it. Maybe the AD or school would step in, but maybe they are worried about Meyer leaving for ND and decide not to step on his toes. So we'll just have to wait and see.

I thought Meyer was having a press conference after practice at 4PM Eastern. I haven't seen any announcement yet. Are we still reviewing the evidence?

Honesty do you think he deserves to play? Think about it DUI would you want a drunk man on your team? It's embarrassing to you & your team...
we've had quite a few players (and coaches) over the years that have tipped back a few ...;)

Well Carlos didn't start for us last year so the DE's will be the same ones that started last year. Justin Trattou will replace Dunlap and he is a pretty good player.

Supposedly, Gary Danielson was on Finebaum and called Dunlap's absence a "gamechanger" for our offense. He said Dunlap was the only one on their D-line who could consistently beat our guys up front.

Didn't hear it myself, though... hopefully someone else did.

I must say, I am surprised. I thought there was no way in the infernal regions Dunlap would not play.
Florida does have standards after all.

Any truth to the rumor that Carlos Dunlap stopped his car at the intersection because James Carpenter was in the crosswalk and he couldn't drive around him?

I'm from the school of thought that any help is good help. I don't care if they say if we beat them it was because of this suspension...I just want to beat them! I'm glad UF did the right thing with this kid. Maybe it will set him on the right path as they prepare for the Sugar Bowl...

Gator Country reporting same thing... AND its funny gator fans think Danielson hates them to... Not sure about the team/ but its no secret his admiration for St Timmy.

I tend to agree with this.

Dunlap is a definite first round pick. He is outstanding. Of course Florida has plenty of talent and depth, but you don't replace a player the caliber of Dunlap in this situation IMO.

I really wish this had not happened and Dunlap were playing Saturday. Of course I wish Hightower were playing for us Saturday as well. Losing Hightower was a big blow to our defense. He was out most versitile player on defense.
