Let's hear it for CNO. I know we wished for a deeper run than the SS, but what a great season and what a great, young, smart and promising coach we have in CNO!

2023 SEC Regular Season and Tourney Champs!

Thanks Coach and we are rooting for many, many more successful seasons!

He needs to learn how to get some respect and get ejected during games like this. He needed to protect his kids. Love the guy. Great Coach. But it’s time to get your Bobby Knight on.

Thanks Coach Oats for making Alabama basketball as strong as it is and keep recruiting and win some more SEC championships. I expect Bama to be back in the NCAA with even greater achievments.

We love you Coach Oates and we are behind you in this journey. You’ve already put us on notice as not just a football school but the makings of an elite basketball school. Roll Tide!!

Hope he stays. The media turds are all over him today.
I’ve only read one article. Pete Thamel, ESPN. Seemed overly harsh to me but I am sensitive after the loss. I don’t think he would have used the same tone if it were UK and Coach Cal.

Coach Oats is by far the best we’ve had since Wimp and is perhaps better but I don’t think we can make that declaration at this juncture. I do hope he stays a long time. And I hope he can get Alabama over this hump.

And so are the football fans that just arrived in the last week spewing junk about midrange game and time outs. Tired of the drive by whining.
I don’t follow basketball that closely. I don’t post much here, especially before the post-season. Football now drags deeper into January than before. So I try to temper my comments on here.

The ending was certainly disappointing. Miller’s groin injury had to hurt his performance and the effect the off court issues had psychologically is impossible to quantify.

This was our winningest season. Oats has been here four years and made the S16 twice. After years of hearing how great our past coaches were it is nice to have one that actually performs.

If ten years from now Oats has a string of S16 losses like Wimp I may change my mind about him. But right now I think the future is bright.

I know it's hard to get there but I really felt this team was going to the Final Four. To end this season now, feels way to early for the talent on this team.

So yeah, I feel a little bit bitter, not unlike Bama losing to Tebow's Gators in 2008.

Still proud of the season they had, but I can't help but feel a little bitter.

Meh. Sure he's young and still learning to be a HC at a major university and competitive conference, but JMO: I don't ever want a coach that some would compare to Bobby Knight.

I think I get your point, however, about standing up for his team, but would we be better off having our HC ejected during a nip and tuck game during the NCAA SS? I'd rather have him on the bench.

People complain to complain. His strategy has worked with two SEC championships and SeC tournaments. You don’t get that unless you are a top notch coach and then you add in all the events that happened and with media swarming around. The coach his staff and the players deserve a lot of credit for keeping the season together. There are teams that collapse and give up on the season with a lot less distractions then we had. In basketball it comes down to making shots and getting hot at the right time not necessarily the best team especially now when so many teams are solid. If this tournament was earlier in the year I think we win it but the last half of the season and we were the hunted and didn’t handle that as well.

The teams that are still in it have a lot of experience like SD state, Miami, Gonzaga, Creighton. We had depth but not a lot of guys who had played in big time games. The freshman looked like freshman at times. Miller didn’t shoot well and was leaving everything short. Clowney got some tough fouls but also made a few dump ones as well and you can’t do that in big games. Especially when your not going deep into your bench which teams do when it one and done.

Gonzaga has been one of the best consistent teams the last 20 years but it took some time to reach the final four they pulled some upsets early but when they were highly seeded it took them some time to break through.

I was hear how great college football championship new tournament will be because how great march madness is and expect that. I don’t expect it to be like it because the more talented teams will prevail and you won’t see lot of upsets like you do in basketball. The top teams like Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson over last few years would have been champions it doesn’t matter if it4 team playoff, 8 teams, or 16.

Really good post.

I think BM's injury affected him more than we realize. Sure all the scrutiny and bad PR was a distraction but I think he was strong enough mentally to deal with that (remember the Vandy game he scored around 40 points in and almost won single handedly for us?) This was the first game after the big news about his "involvement" broke.

It was not until his groin injury occurred during the SECT that he started struggling so badly from the field. And last night he couldn't get to the rim either.

I'd feared all year long a BM rolled ankle or knee tweak would be devastating and it happened to be a strained groin.

CNO is tops in my book.

Has anyone mentioned that 2 SEC championship sweeps (both reg season and tourney wins) in three years may be a first for any Bama BB coach? I'd swear it hasn't happened in the time since the late 80's when I started following the program.

He's doing great things, so I'm not one to question a single strategic move the guy makes. Here's hoping the powers that be feel the same way.

He's not going anywhere OR he wouldn't have signed the extension during the season.

Bama basketball is arguably the most consistent in the SEC currently. Not Kentucky, not Florida, not Arkansaw (teams who've reached the pinnacle in the sport) and not the Barn. It's Bama basketball that is the standard in the SEC right now. As you noted, 2 sweeps of the season and tourney in 3 years.

Now, building on that, we've just got to make deeper runs in March. As someone already pointed out. It took Coach K and others years to learn how to get their teams to the NC level. CNO is the right man for the job and I believe he's smart enough to figure it out.
