Coaching Carousel 2024

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

No kidding. They simply aren't competitive and really never have been other than an occasional year against C-USA level competition. Not sure what they expect to get by firing a coach who just took them to two straight bowls.
Hello? Is this the Rice University Athletic Department? This is Mike Norvell at FSU. Can I speak with your Athletic Director?
My name again? Mike Norvell….
N……O…..R…V…..

I wish we would schedule them. It really bothers me that Alabama is 0-3 against them.

Well... when did we last play them? Like 1955 when Ears was losing badly for us? Ha!

Wait... I actually looked this up and yep...

We lost to them 6-28 in 1953 with a 6-3-3 Cotton Bowl team. Then Drew left after a losing season the next year.

Then we played them back to back in 1955 and 1956 under Ears! Ouch.

The 0-10 team in 1955 lost 0-20 and the 2-7-1 team in 1956 lost 13-20.

We definitely need to schedule them.

I don't understand why Temple and Ball State would fire their head coaches before the end of the season. What do they hope to accomplish in so doing? There are no decent head coaches chomping at the bit to go to those schools.

Honestly... if they are a competent coach, might as well let them keep rolling. It does look like Temple was going nowhere and Ball has been miserable for years though. Ball has only 20 winning records in 50 years... not going to get much better.

It gets the word out there is an opening. A hot young assistant who thinks he can turn around a moribund program now knows there are opportunities. If they wait until the end of the season they will have to fight others.

Fickell fired Phil Longo today. The two are friends, so that had to be hard.
I always thought that Longo was a strange choice as an OC for Wisconsin, particularly given how traditionally it had always been a “run first” and “ground and pound” program. You had to ask yourself “does Wisky have the type players to run a Longo system and, if not, how long before you can get those type players established in the program?”

Hot, young assistants don't go to these schools. They get the leftovers. Even an early start won't change that. If anything this makes young coaches less likely to want to be there. The coaching circle is tight. They all talk amongst one another.
