Say it with me - position coaches don't solely recruit their position.
Not to mention that if he's willing to get in a car and ride up to Huntsville, he's already several steps ahead of what Dunbar was as a recruiter.

I doubt we miss on as many guys by hiring a coach who has produced 4 first rounders, multiple All-Pro players, a NFL DPoY, multiple Big-12/SEC DPoYs, countless All-Conference and All-American defensive linemen. He may very well be the weakest recruiter on the staff - I have my doubts because success in recruiting depends on luck, assignments, and the program you represent - but we've more than made up for recruiting in almost every other hire.
Miami fans pulling a "bye felica" on this one are just being petty.

Yeah but when you say "fans" you're only talking about what, 15, 16 people?
Coach Kul has spent most of his coaching career on Pinkel's staff at Missouri, a program that was hyper-focused on player development and almost prided itself on NOT recruiting elite athletes, but instead "coaching up" and developing more lightly-regarded talent. He primarily recruited Texas there, and is generally regarded as an excellent talent evaluator, but--of course--Missouri was never going to get the blue-chippers out of Texas, so he isn't going to have a lot of 4- and 5-star "gets" on his record.
I can't speak to where his recruiting area was at Miami, but if it was anywhere but Texas, he was likely starting over and building entirely new relationships.
Bottom line is, he will be an outstanding position coach and an outstanding talent evaluator. Great hire.
