Smith was fired last night. I'm real concerned about Houston firing black coaches back to back in past 2 years... Not a good look for organization.
Why does it have to be about that? Can't they just hire/fire good coaches? I get your point, but jeez...Letting someone tell you WHO can run your company that may not be as qualified just to check a box is just not good business...Pick a winner...Yellow/Red?Black?White...Pick a winner.

are they supposed to keep a guy that sucks because he happens to be black?
No, but it does make it look worse on the organization that they fired coaches in back to back years that were also black. There is already bad press over how few minority head coaches are in the league. Firing a coach after 1 year also brings a bad light to the organization. Did they make that poor of a decision 2 years in a row? What player would want to go play for a team with that track record?

Agreed.

Did they fire him because they won the game which lost them the #1 pick?

He coached 9 seasons in Chicago, made it to a Super Bowl, losing to Peyton Manning. Won the NFC North 3 times, went 3-3 in the playoffs. 92-100 in 12 years of NFL coaching.

He was terrible in Tampa Bay. Houston is a dumpster fire regardless of him.

He was terrible at Illinois, going 17-39.

I hate seeing the talk of black coaches being fired. Tomlin has been with the Steelers for almost 2 decades. If you're successful, regardless of race, organizations are going to keep you. Lovie isn't successful as a head coach....he's mediocre at best. Tony Dungy with the Colts was great....85-27. He finished 139-69 as a head coach in the NFL.

I bet Demeco Ryans is going to be getting a call after the 49ers season. He'll get a shot somewhere, just hope its not the Texans.

Now, what the Texans did to David Culley....I think that came simply because the organization is so poorly run.

Any coach going in there is going to have issues.

That guy they had before Culley (name slips my mind) won four division titles and only coach in franchise history with a winning record. They need to hire him back.
Indeed, BOB had one losing season as the Texans head coach in 2017. 4-12. BOB was light years ahead of Culley and Smith relative to their time coaching the Texans, and should be rehired immediately.

Smith and Kingsbury we knew were “toast”. That was pretty much a given. Now the question is “who else”?

Lovie Smith has a losing record as both a pro and college coach.

Optics aside, he's just not a very good HC.

I understand. This is a 2 fold issue. The first is optics. The second is that the administration at Houston will now be hiring a coach for the 3rd time in 3 years. That is a very big black eye on their front office. From a players perspective, I wouldn't have faith in the organization to continue playing there or sign as a free agent.

The only way they could save face is to hire Sean Payton or somehow find another splash hire.

Would Kingsbury be a good OC for a team that might be in the market for an OC?
That is hard to say. Kingsbury’s scheme is more “Air Raid” style. For us, I’m not sure CNS would want to go that direction.
I read some comments that Kingsbury has a strong disdain for the recruiting aspect of college football. Leads me to believe he would be looking to stay in the NFL.
Not like he needs to be in a hurry. His contact with Cardinals was guaranteed through 2026 for a nice $7.5 million a year.

I agree!

Making ANY decision based on skin color is racist...

Was he hired BECAUSE he was black or because he was a good coach that happened to be black?

Are you firing him because he is black or because he was a bad coach that happened to be black?
