Coach in Waiting….
Don’t get me wrong. I would love having DeMeco Ryans back running the defense. But has the whole “coach in waiting” thing ever worked out? Maybe the one year in 2013 when Dumbo and Crablegs won it all? Seems to me it is more of a distraction than offering the real continuity it should provide.

Only because of outside influence. I said it half jokingly.

I think Ryans will make a very smart decision on where he goes because being the defensive coordinator for arguably the best defense in the NFL is not too bad.

Yeah he’s a super sharp guy. He’ll land an NFL HC position at some point. But DeMeco is smart enough to be selective on those opportunities.

Guys... Kraft had enough of BB's buddy system with the coaches.. so BOB might not be able to return to Patriots... If they have opportunity to get Kliff Kingsbury, then they need to do that over BOB. BOB is better off going somewhere... Tampa bay would be good landing spot for him Either as OC or HC. We should hear more about BOB in recent days.. but let me stress this... WE do not care where BOB goes... because he's not coming back to Alabama.

Almost any football organization that has watched a minute of Bama's "let Bryce make something happen" offense would not touch BOB at all. I truly believe that he is a former coach that should consider a new career direction. IMO he has sleep walked and BS his way through this gig and now the jig is up.

This is not simply true. BOB is highly regard in NFL. His offensive scheme is more suited for NFL, than college rank. BOB can call the game.. it's just how he goes about it that needs to improve.. He needs to develop better feeling for playcalling... that's about it.

I don't think he's returning either.

so, what you are saying is a guy that was the OC for Tom Brady at the Patriots, a head coach at Penn State, a head coach for the Texans and an OC for Bama, is a highly regarded play caller who only needs to improve his play calling and how he goes about? to me, if he is as highly regarded as you say he is, he should not have to improve on his play calling or how he goes about it.

He wasn't hired with many openings in the NFL at the end of last season, multiple openings in college ranks this year and yet no one has called. He is not involved in nuclear physics and being able to adapt is elemental to the coaching profession. Believe whatever you wish but to say a fired Coach-GM from the Texans disaster is highly regarded in the NFL is a stretch IMHO!

I think we all might be surprised at how differently some coaches are viewed by NFL teams.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't BOB on the shortlist for the Ga Tech opening? I know it was down to him, the current HC, and someone else.
No idea.

I'm just pointing out that there are many examples of 'failed' coaches still working in the NFL. Once you make the cut, so to speak, a respect is earned that's really hard to lose...

He's highly respected as an OC in the NFL. The Patriots "folks" want him back REEEEAL BAD and it seems Tampa Bay is willing to jettison Leftwich to bring in BOB in order to keep Brady. Either way, I think BOB is no longer on this staff in a few weeks.
