Devastating Tornado Damage in Tuscaloosa

Jay Paterno tweeted that the Red Cross needs blood in Alabama and for Penn State fans to donate blood and to specify for it to go to Alabama. Good gesture by PSU.

We heard the first hand reports of 8 students killed in the one house from a friend of theirs who found them. To say he will be scarred by what he described is an understatement. Hell, I'll be scarred just by hearing him describe it. A friend of mine has made it through Alberta and Holt and he said it was gone. Alberta had two structures still up which were Alberta Baptist and Oreillys which is next to it. Alberta Elementary and Holt Elementary are gone. On a positive note we have accounted for our family's missing friends which was a huge relief. Many prayers go out to those not as fortunate.

I don't really understand the 8 students killed # published by the CW. Maybe they are just waiting for better confirmation, but it seems its a bit higher than that. It's just horrible.

I've heard that an "official" report comes after the medical examiner, coroner, and family notification takes place. Yesterday a friend was cutting trees in Alberta and there was a body still lying on the side of the road. Search and rescue just has so much to cover.

I'm hearing things are much worse than are being reported up around Phil Campbell also. Someone I know is on the search team up there. Right now I think they have confirmed around 10 dead in Phil Campbell, but the guy I know has found 18 additional bodies just by himself in the past day or so.

To those student fatalities numbers, I have to think that the numbers will rise substantially. Just way too many students living the storm's path. If the numbers stay low, then thank God. But everything suggests that it will get much, much worse.

Did anyone see the Tweet about MS-13 from the Tuscaloosa Women's Resource Center? I won't describe it - too vile and bizarre - but anyone confirm this?

I just found what you're talking about and think people need to spread the word. It's pretty sickening. I posted it on my facebook.

27 is the last official number I heard, but was told to expect it to rise.

I know that Midtown Village is gone, but I haven't heard about what fatalities were there. I'm a senior at UA and have e-mailed all of the classmates I did not have phone numbers for. So far, everyone I have heard from is fine physically. However, I have yet to hear from some people who lived in Midtown and just off of 15th street.

Also, can anyone attest to the phone service in Cullman? I tried to call my freshman roommate there but the call wouldn't connect.

Headed to Phil Campbell & Hackleburg with my agency to help coordinate some support. I'll report back later guys & maybe have some pictures.
