it was officially called unsportsmanlike conduct, whatever.

the point is, despite me hating all things barn, it was a crappy call.
so eventually the refs will call it on us for some trivial thing- (like GMac doing the phone call symbol in the endzone).

sec refs are notoriously inconsistent so cant they define excessive celebration more rigidly so refs have less of an opportunity to influence games whenever they feel like it?
At first I was like "is that really a personal foul"? Then I noticed on replay he looked back toward GMAC. It then made me think he must have said something explicit.... But lets be honest, when you are a marked man based on your previous behavior, you get targeted or watched closely. Now the real question I have is why their "senior" offensive line got away with so much holding all day long?

You're probably right but at the time I was saying "the refs were giving him warning. We'll not tolerate more of your antics."
I agree that it was a combination. I noticed he got some counseling on the way off the field and on the sideline. He was effective from then on without being ridiculous...

I have a question for those that think this was a bad call. If JJ scored a TD and started doing a dance that brought attention to himself like NF did, should he get the flag? I do because it would draw attention to himself and that's what NF did.

Yeah, it didn't appear that the AU coaches felt the call was bad. They must have heard or understood that Fairley said something he shouldn't have.

It depends on what JJ said to the refs or opposing players during the celebration...

I didn't care if it was fair or not, and wouldn't have cared if it led directly to a win for us.

He has taken cheap shots all year and seriously injured several QBs on late/cheap hits. I'm typically a believer in "what goes around comes around."

To Fairley's credit, he didn't complain about it afterward. When asked about it he basically just said that he needed to calm down after big plays.

I was upset about the call because you would have had to punt instead of going ahead by another touchdown.

I heard that what he said to GMac was "hi Greg". Lol...

Agreed. The spotlight was on Fairley (his own fault). After that, I was waiting for a make-up call to come against a Bama player who showed any emotion after a good play.
I think you got it in the form of a false start that if you replayed the dvr and 10000000000 millibites per sec you can see his muscles tense before the snap.

So I guess the next biggest question to be answered (and Ive thought about starting another thread on this subject alone) is what kind of meds did they give him when he went to the locker room? Cuz I know a bag of ice and rewrapping doesnt take away the pain he was feeling. To go from not being able to move his arm to producing like he did makes you go hmmmm. Im just wondering if we can get that same go juice from our doctors so our players can go back on the field. Would have been great if Barron had had the magical potion and was able to lift his arm. Or Julio and Hanks could get some to get rid of the leg whips. Wonder if it does anything for concussions??

I just may start another thread....

I've heard from people who should know that it was strictly what he said. If you look at the replay, the flag came out late, after he'd rotated towards #12. They'll hit your for blue language a lot quicker than prancing around...
Thanks, this makes sense. Based just on what was visible on-screen, it looked like a bit of a borderline call.

I've got a guy in the office who for the last 2 hours has whined and cried about the Fairley penalty. I swear you'd have thought it cost them the game. Ooo when this NCAA stuff hits he's gonna catch HELL!

And no one knows what the officials said to Fairley/Auburn before the game.

They may have pre-warned him to mind his manners or else they would be throwing the flags at him.

I was amazed that he didn't do anything else.

Gary Danielson hinted at this in his thing with Finebaum earlier in the week. He said he asked Cheezit about the SEC reprimanding Fairley and he dodged the question. Methinks Danielson knew something and was trying to get it publically confirmed.
