Favorite Danielson/Lundquist quote EVER (from Bama v UF):

Watching the game again last night, I picked up on this exchange between Gary Danielson and Verne Lundquist. It might be my favorite ever. In the second quarter, Bama driving in deep in UF territory; Handoff to Trent Richardson, who promptly bowls over a gator defender at the 20 and carries two more down inside the 10. At the instant that #3 blows up the first would-be tackler:

GD: "Oh, MAN!"
VL: "That's Richardson, and yes he IS."

Verne and Gary have really grown on me in the past couple of years. The more I hear Gary explain himself apart from the CBS broadcasts, the more I understand where he is coming from. One thing I really like is GD's habit of making a comment as the play is unfolding. I remember two years ago during the Iron Bowl beatdown in T-town, we had McElroy and Maze in mop up duty in the fourth. GMac throws a perfect bomb to Maze for a TD, but as soon as GMac released the ball (it might have been 5 yards downfield) Danielson says, "Oh, WOW!", seeing what had unfolded before it happened. Against Arkansas a couple of weeks ago, Gary gave an "Uh-oh!" when Mallett threw the ball without properly setting his feet - GD knew from the poor mechanics that it meant bad things were about to happen for the Hogs.

You said something nice about Verne and Gary.

Quick! Duck!

I agree, by the way. They're not perfect, but I like them better than any ESPN combo except Nessler and Blackledge.

Lord how I miss Gottfried and Franklin.

At one point after Trent had made a great run and Mark ran in to replace him, Verne said, "and here comes the Heisman back-up in to replace Richardson." He was laughing as he said it. He is a hoot!

I've said it over and over - GD is one of my favs. Every single game I watch he points something out before it happens - he knows what he's talking about.

Verne, well, he's old, but he's also old-school, which makes him tolerable. I just hate that he can't get people's names right...

I too have come to appreciate them as a broadcast duo. Just be thankful we are not on ABC more often and have to listen to Musburger and Herbstreit.

I like Nessler and Blackledge better myself....just my personal preference. I like Todd's "taste of the town". GD is okay....Verne needs to retire or sell insurance!

I too miss Gottfried and Franklin....they were really great together!:biggrin2:

My favorite of this season was one of Danielson's lines about Mallet.

"He has better footwork than Drew Brees."

Really, Even Lundquist didn't know what to say to that one. I remember a moment of awkward silence. I live in Florida or I would just listen to Eli.

On a side note. The area I live is heavily Gator fans, and they were very quiet Sunday morning at church.

I say the same thing. I always learn something about the game of football from listening to GD.

During the Arkansas game, he made the comment that ARK was "gashing" the Alabama defense... and it was an absolutely spot-on description of what was happening on the field.

Yah, except that's not what he said.

He said "even Drew Brees doesn't have better footwork than that" noting a specific play where Mallet did have exceptional footwork. Big diff.

I agree! GD appears on the PF show, on Thursdays I believe. I look forward to hearing his comments, he's astute and succinct. He opined when asked that he thought Bama would win by more than 10, while PF stuck to a 7-10 point difference.

After constantly hearing the other guys (espn commentators) I was happy to have Verne and Gary. So tired of the BSU crap they spout elsewhere. I also like how its knowledgeable with Gary IMO.

The only reason you guys hated him before was because of his constant praise of Tebow and your hatred of UF during that period. Guys, they do that for the #1 team every year. GD has always provided the most insightful commentary of any college football analyst on TV. He's not changed his analysis at all, but it's UA that's on top now. That's why you think Danielson's great now. Is it that hard to see?

GD does do a great job of seeing the play unfold. He's also see's enough pre-snap to give little hints at time. I can't name on at the moment, but he will often make a comment that is usually right on as to where the play is going. I tend to think of myself as having pretty decent football knowledge and I enjoy watching a game with a coach. Listening to GD at times I get some of the same insight.

Verne, however, still sucks.
I'm gonna disagree...lol..

I know he misses names occassionally but he might be the absolute best at doing what a great play by play guy is supposed to do, which is adding excitement to the game.

His "OH MY" and OH MAN" etc.....get me pumped.

I can't stand those play by play announcers who act like they're announcing a funeral.

The game is supposed to be fun to watch and Verne is very good at helping to make it that way.

Heck, if you think about it....even the missed names are more funny than aggravating.

Danielson is very very good as well.

I think they're a great team and compliment each other very well.

Don't have any specific quotes but he did refer to Chance Warmack as "Chase" Warmack during the Florida game. Wonder how the Mizzou QB Chance Daniels is doing in the pros so far.......

I think it was umeyer's first year when fl traveled to Bama and fl was down at the half. gd may have said that it was the same score last week when fl was at ky. lundquist promptly said yeah but this aint kentucky or something to that effect.

It was after Prothro's 87 yard td reception to open the game after Florida went 3 and out.

He plays for the Saints and looked good in the preseason games.

Gary made a few comments before halftime of last year's Tennessee game about how their kicker was kicking the ball a little low during pre-game warmups and how low their kick at the end of the first half was. He said that would be something to watch out for in the second half and Cody endd up blocking two kicks.
