Guillon breaks silence on his quitting team

I suspect that he might have issues that create some very difficult times, maybe periods of oversensitivity.

DING DING DING! Although "periods of oversensitivity" is downplaying it quite a bit.

Ok guys, do you all believe that the coaches have nothing to possibly do with this? Unless your Marc Guillon or Mike Shula you probably dont know what was said, promised or anything for that matter. Im not taking either side but I think its a little niave to think that the coaches are beyond false promises. Either way I dont see any reason to bash Guillion. Im sure it had to be something for him to stay until his senior year and then quit in the middle of the year.

Considering the fact that numerous recruits have said that the Bama staff was always upfront with them I am willing to put my faith in the coaches and not Guillons. If he somehow believed that he would be just given the starter role then I think that he is delusional. One of the things that Shula has constantly preached is that it is always a competition to earn and keep your starting role.

What did he say? I mean I read what he said, but what did he say? As far as I can tell, he said nothing about why he quit. This will not help him in the long run. It certainly hurt the team as well, though how much from a practical standpoint remains to be seen.

Quitting for the second time in his college career and this time in the middle of the season when he's had the 2nd most snaps of anyone at QB then taking a couple pot shots at the coaches in an email... all things point to a temper tantrum.

"I only wanna be on the team if I can get a certain amount of playing time" - This guy appears to have the wrong motives for being on the team. Was the possibility of JPW coming out and playing poorly this season his motivation for staying on the team?

I'm starting to believe it was you Marc knocked out in his bar fight.

Do you talk about anything OTHER than Marc Guillon?

I'm beginning to wonder that myself. There's nothing more pathetic than a mancrush on an internet message board. So Marc is gone. Why should we keep giving traction to it by continuing to harp on it again and again and again. I happen to wish Marc Guillon well. I hope he finds what he's looking for.

If you want to talk about oversensitivity, we can start with the membership of this board who jump at the chance to talk trash about an ex-player.

"There's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others, is there?" -- Randal Graves

Self preservation? MG is quite the little drama queen. He's just a quitter, doing what quitters do best....quit.

TommyMac you know I love your post. But this one I have to disagree with.
After reading "I Ain't Never Been Nothing but a Winner": Coach Paul Bryant's Book talks about how he walked out at Maryland, Kentucky, and Texas A&M. Coach Bryant wasn't a quitter. We do not know what Marc was told and what he was going through. We certainly do not know what Coach Bryant was told and what he was going through. I do believe the decision made by MG was very tough and not a quick fit of rage action. I honestly believe Marc loves Alabama but he had to move on in life just like Coach Bryant did. I am really surprised at the attacks on Marc Guillon. No one on this board knows anything about his situation. Lets leave it at that. Again Tommy I know how you feel and I do understand the point about quitting. I would like to know the whole story not just some media email report.
:BigA:

He is a young man and will be just fine. So will Bama football. No sense getting all upset about it. If Shula wanted to keep him, he could have. Relationships involve more than one person.

Face it, if JPW goes down this season, we are in deep doo, with or without Guillon..

Marc Guillon doesn't like Mike Shula...Mike Shula doesn't like Marc Guillon.

Whether anyone here will admit it between Guillon bashing posts, that was a very audacious move in his part.

Yep, it's a really bold move to quit on your teammates ... for the second time in your career. Not only that, but in the middle of the season! Aside from that, is there ever a player who has ever played the amount of time that he was told he would play? Even if what he said is 100% true, he just proved flat out the reason why he wasn't the starting QB. Had he gone out in silence, I would have said we should all appreciate what he contributed.

While I certainly don't relish the opportunity to tarnish a kid's image, I will point out the fact that ultimately, what MG has done in this situation will determine how he is remembered. Any way you cut it, there's a way to leave if you care deeply for the team... you do so with dignity... while measuring your words in a careful manner. On the side of CMS, everything I have seen is that he has handled his end (at least publicly) with respect. On the side of MG, I'm afraid there's something lacking in that same area. He may have been wronged by CMS... that fact still remains to be proven. However, to claim you truly care about the team while emailing a public statement that openly calls for people to question CMS just begs people to speculate about things like MG's character and integrity... and that's exactly what will continue to take place (rightly so in my book).

Questioning Guillons integrity? Wow!

Personally, I refuse to question MG's character or integrity any more than Shula's without hearing the story. I will just accept this as a broken relationship (think divorce) until I hear evidence to the contrary.

I have seen very honorable people get divorced...

Don't doubt the last statement one bit. However, the basis for the integrity comment is one that lies solely in what the two parties have said since the "breakup." In the case of CMS, it's been businesslike... with even a positive or two thrown in. With the email from MG today, it's been anything but positive... the wording was designed for people to call CMS's character into question. You do that during the middle of the season... and in a public forum (he emailed various media sources throughout the state). Now, had CMS come out and said, MG has been a cancer to our team and we're better off because he's left," I would fully expect him to say these things. To do what he's doing, as I said earlier, invites people to be criticical of him even more than they would be otherwise.

Could the difference be emotion and youth instead of a lack of integrity?

I think this says it all about this situatiion:

Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world. Set a goal and don't quit until you attain it. When you do attain it, set another goal, and don't quit until you reach it. Never quit." - Coach Paul Bryant
