If JPW gets injured, the Tide will truly be in a world of hurt. And if this happens, Shula's cold seat will start to warm rapidly.

There are two things that surprise me here:

1. That people actually think that if JPW gets injured that Shula will be fired (which is implied here)
2. That the same posters that would agree with the above thought didn't post that he will probably be fired for allowing the houndstooth pattern on the uniforms this weekend.

Come off it. If JPW gets hurt we're in trouble no matter who the backup is. MG never impressed me when he had the chance in 2004. His act of telling the media that he was going to be the starter BEFORE Shula announced it showed me he didn't represent the Alabama class that we look for in players.

And when, prey tell, should Shula have played any backup QB this year? We're still growing as a team and this year is more about getting reps for the first team and prepping them for a run in 2007 while trying to win as many games as possible.

Hey RT, I'm not suggesting that Shula will get fired if JPW gets hurt. Just that if he gets hurt, the offense will REALLY be in a world of hurt. And if this happens, questions will be raised about Shula's handling of the QB situation and why there is no viable backup on hand. Heck, even DuBose always had a backup QB. You might blame this on Guillon, but the fact of the matter is that it was Shula's job to keep his backup QB happy and ready to go, and this clearly has not happened.

IMHO, Shula's honeymoon is over, and if things do not improve he will be on the hot seat. Most likely, this will happen in 2008, assuming that things are not better next season. And by better, I mean victories over both Auburn and Tennessee (especially Auburn). But if JPW goes down and the team loses 5 of their last 6 games this year, I could envision Shula on the hot seat at the start of next season.

He relies almost exculsively on the starter and gives the backup little if any playing time. We saw that last year with Brodie and are aeeing it again this year.

The only opportunity this year was the LaM game. And MG played the whole 4th quarter (2 series) except for the mop up with JB at the end.

CMS can't put a back-up in just for the sake of giving him reps when he's needs the best player out there to win the game. It's JP's first year he need the reps too.

I might buy into some arguments against CMS's coaching, but not this one.

Nosty... you bring up a very interesting question here. While some in this thread have wondered aloud why he should stay in a situation that he did not like for the benefit of the team, there's an obvious answer: that's what is paying for his college education. Whenever you have a player who quits the team in this type of circumstance (i.e. issue, track record, and timing), there's a question that comes to my mind: will he now pay for his education or does UA pick up the tab? If you look at this situation, there are a lot of things that cause people to speculate... and none of the roads travel to pretty places.

For those of you that wish to bash him perhaps you should focus more on a team that appears to be inching closer and closer to chaos and turmoil from the inside out.

I don't know because I'm not as "close to the program" as some on this forum, but I don't think the situation is quite as dire and some might imply.

Has MG already finished his degree? Brodie played last year as graduate working on his masters. This was MG's 5'th year was it not? And he stayed through most of the summers, did he not? That being said, what was his major? If he majored in something like "Verbal Communications" then he was really only here to play football (no offense to those VC majors that take their degree seriously).

Anyone who follows Bama football knows that the Media and MG did not mix very well. Whether it was someone using his comments "out of context" or whether it was someone just "spouting off", I don't know, but when you are the QB at Bama, you better understand that what you say and how you say it are important. MG didn't perform when he had a chance, when BC went down, he had an opportunity, he didn't take advantage of it, there may be a multitude of reasons for that, but the bottom line is this, he didn't take advantage of that opportunity. It's kinda like that Cadillac commercial where Tikki Barber is riding in his big Cadillac and he says that he was a backup, but he got an oppportunity and he made the most of it. Well, some people, some athletes never even get a chance to prove themselves, MG did get a chance, and he didn't make the most of it, so nobody is to blame except MG.

As for those that say, you shouldn't judge him or say anthing about him, I say fooey!

He let his teammates down, period. Anyone who's played team sports will tell you the same thing, regardless, he quit on his teammates, and that is unexcuseable in my book. The type of person/player who would quit in the middle of the year is NOT the type of person that you want leading your team, not the type of person you need to be your QB and at a leadership position on your team. If he is capable of that, then that tells you exactly why he wasn't playing. I don't know him from Adam, but I'll bet it's all about Character.

For what it's worth, in my years of following college football very few transfers ever work out. Usually the player transferring winds up with the same issues at his new school that he had with the school he left.

Very true...and the common denominator in all of these situations is the player himself. Most of the time there's also a pretty good sized ego in the way as well.

My opinion - most of all these kids were studs at their high school, then they go to a major college and are just another average player. Sometimes they can't handle the adjustment.

Yep, there are a few notable exceptions. Troy Aikman was one, but he got the blessing to transfer to UCLA from Oklahoma from Switzer because he was staying with the option offense. Interesting that Switzer won a superbowl with Aikman.

I do wish Marc the best. I am sure he and Coach Shula sat down and discussed his leaving. I can't not speak for Coach or Marc but the schedule should have allowed him (Marc) plenty of playing time. It just did not work out that way. Not knowing the situation I will say thanks and good luck MG. :BigA:

Those of you who assume this is "the tip of the iceberg" in regards to team issues are mistaken. Guillon has issues. The biggest problem as far as our team goes is simply the fact that we went for him to begin with.

Despite the lack of "in-game" reps, I think Jimmy Barnes will do every bit as good at backup as Guillon would have. Guillon was never anything special and really the only aspect , i believe, he had over Barnes was limited game experience. Jimmy Barnes has been with the team now for 1 1/2 years and should have a decent knowledge of the play-book. He isn't a John Parker Wilson, but in all honesty, was Marc Guillon either? It's overly obvious that Mike Shula NEVER had confidence in Marc Guillon post 2004 because if he did Guillon would have been the starter this year and backup to Croyle in 05'.
