The physical conditioning and dominating play of last year's team was largely the result of a new S & C program. From my seat in the stands during the Duke game, I watched several of our enormous O linemen beat on pass rushes and shoved into the backfield by much smaller and supposedly less talented defensive linemen, several O linemen who hit no one on a play (did not even make contact), and several whose hands remained on their hips as their chests heaved between plays.
It has been said that between huddles and game stoppages, the typical starter spends a total of about 18 minutes of actual playing time on the field. If our O linemen can't get motivated to devote their best effort for 18 minutes, we have a real problem with the S & C program, a lack of motivation, or both. Some players need a pat on the back. I think our O line needs a kick in the seat of the pants before our QB gets creamed and the rest of the season goes down the drain. But that is just my 2 cents from my cheap seat in the stands and in my recliner.
