Re: Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach Placed on Leave

I read somewhere that he is close to someone who is close to an agent - in other words, there is no direct agent relationship. If that is the case, the whole "agent" thing begins to look a little contrived. I bet that most of us know someone who knows an agent.
I'm not terribly upset yet, but if Luther Davis' name comes up, I'm gonna very upset

Re: Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach Placed on Leave

I think his name was Dr Redpath(?) Some kind of compliance expert.
You realize that Dareus was originally 4 games for $2000, and that was reduced to 2 games, because he'd already repaid? That doesn't fit the gentleman's definition. I've looked it up before and posted in one of the Dareus threads. I just don't want to take the time again. Dix was far less than $500...

Re: Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach Placed on Leave

I'm not buying this. Even I know it's not ok to loan a player money under any circumstances. And, by the way, everyone is coming down hard on the coach, but HaHa should have known better than to ask, and/or accept the funds.
No, nothing can "make it right." What I'm hearing - and it'll be interesting to see if it's right - was that Dix had a couple hundred stolen from his car and was running short. Harris felt sorry for him and made him a small loan. Dix has already produced bank records to prove he paid it back...

That was my first thought when I read it, but I didn't want to just throw it out there.

Just wanted to add that just about everyone in your program knows Davis, so if this is the guy that the media used as the "agent relationship", I would be more upset with the media than Luther. Why even bring "agent" into the discussion unless you have a credible source telling you that an agent was fronting the money?

Some of them are a little more, um, shady, than others.

He's wrong. The formula can be found on the NCAA site, but it's nothing like that. What kind of lawyer?
I'm confused. Are you saying that there is a formula that states how long you can be suspended for accepting an impermissible loan? Which sounds to me like a wink, wink, nod nod kind of thing. The player gets the money and a potential short punishment

Always has been a formula - and it's not anything like a game per $100, or Dareus, even with the reduction, would have been suspended 20 games instead of 2...

Always has been a formula...
Since the NCAA is involved, the formula probably involves something really complicated and difficult to follow - I'm thinking differential equations.

Re: Assistant Strength/Conditioning Coach Placed on Leave

Mr. Harris is probably out of a job and Clinton-Dix is probably out for 3-5 games depending on the NCAA's discretion and opinion of our compliance office's job on this matter.
You mean he could be back in time for the LSU game? That seems entirely unfair. Don't you think the LSU players should be allowed a team vote on whether HaHa gets reinstated for their game? /bluetext

It is a dollar amount for any impermissible benefit, with reduction for repayment. It's figured by quarters. In the "fishing trip" case. One player received a laptop from the same Auburn booster and lied initially about it. They can tack on for that...

Yeah, Earle, didn't JH get like a 7-game suspension because of that?
