Is our strength & conditioning program showing elite results?

Our rash of injuries this season and most recently the hamstring injury to Brian Robinson has me wondering if the lofty promises made by the guys running our S&C are being delivered.

We do seem to be well conditioned and have played well late in games (which is good) but I can't say that performance has improved that much overall.

Then there are the injuries that really are and will continue to be a problem no matter how many more times we play.

I am sure there are people who have thought about this more than I. I would be interested to hear thoughts

Every team has injuries - the question you ask at this point in the season is 'are we having a preponderance of injuries to certain body parts'?

Arms and legs will always be the most injury prone, especially in football, but without looking at the numbers I don't think we've seen an abnormal spike in specific body part injuries, such as knee injuries.

I'm more concerned with our physicality in the trenches this year than injuries, as far as S&C is concerned.
It's not S&C - look at how the DL holds up and sheds blocks. Lots of power AND explosiveness.

When your OL is poorly coached / unsure regarding assignments, etc., they respond slowly which causes footwork and leverage issues. I suspect our OL are as quick and strong as they've ever been at Bama, they just need better coaching and more experience.

The experience part will take care of itself. Honestly, it should be showing fruits by this point in the season, but simply isn’t. Which gets to the coaching part.

I actually think we’ve regressed. And given the abysmal OL performances late in the year, against less-than-stellar DLs, I’ll be most interested to see who the OL coach is in 2022.

But one down season feels like an aberration I have confidence will be fixed next year.
This is what CNS was talking about last week when he was trying to fire the team up. Not picking on you because I also feel that this has been a down year. We finished the regular season at 11-1 and most Bama fans would the season a grade of incomplete. If he would admit it so would CNS. In another post someone talked about how young this team is. No matter how the rest of the season goes let's hope they remember all the lost opportunities and use that as momentum for next year.

Injuries are a part of the game...especially joint injuries and hamstring pulls, etc. Proper workouts and physical development can help to limit these but they cannot stop them. Knees and ankles were not made by the Good Lord to bend like football bends them.

I'm only operating within the framework of the incredibly high standards that have been set here.

When I saw this team play against Auburn, LSU and Florida (three big names who went 6-6 this year but actually have recruits in the trenches) I didn't see the level of physicality we've traditionally seen under CNS.

This is silly...to me it's the ultimate eeyore...Looking for an excuse...These two are PHENOMENAL...Not picking on you, there was another similar thread....but you can have Scott Cochran back if you'd like...

We seem to be well conditioned and the ball boy isn’t tearing his ACL like everyone did when Cochran was around. You’re not sure that’s an improvement? If you’re looking for a sport with no injuries you could try watching Poker.

I`ve personally not come away feeling as though we were physically manhandled. Outcoached and outschemed maybe, but not physically inferior.

I've been concerned about the push off of the line for designed running plays. We're missing something there. Whether it's coaching, easily spotted play-calling, explosiveness, leverage, weight, fatigue, youth, or strength, we could be getting more push than we have been this part of the year. I'm not enough of a student of the game to say I understand what it is.

But, on the other hand, November is always a very tough month for Alabama football, with every team we play, having seen 90% of what we can do and what weaknesses we have. If you look back over November scores under Coach Nick Saban, you'll see this is when we struggle the most to win games and scores are closer than we want.

The old saying, that you learn from experience, is not entirely true. In reality, you learn from evaluated experience; which, as you wrote, gets to the coaching part. I'll be interested to see who our OL coach and OC are in 2022 and, if no changes there, can they evaluate their experiences enough to learn and apply...

Five or six guys on the offensive line getting beat by a three or four man rush this year hasn’t anything to do with S&C. No one, save one or two guys they faced, whipped them physically. It was 1) coaching 2) coaching 3) coaching and finally 4) coaching. Plus lack of an alpha dog on that line didn’t help.

Yes, when you look at tape and see the QB running for his life because 3 linemen are blocking 1 guy and letting 2 run free, it’s not S&C . The biggest problems are stunts the defense runs. Oline gets confused easy on which man to block . All that is coaching. Thinking instead of playing fast. When everyone is strong and 330 pounds, a split second delay allows the defensive guy an advantage
