Jameis Winston investigated for sexual assault - and...no charges to be filed...

This passage from the Deadspin article is basically exactly how I feel; any non-famous person in this country would be in jail awaiting trial, or at least out on bond.

When accusing someone of rape, bruises aren't enough. Blood in your underwear isn't enough. The rapist's DNA isn't enough. Your testimony isn't enough.
Is that true that the young lady's blood was in her panties? How in the name of Sam Hill does the State Attorney not charge based on that?

The accuser's attorney is going to begin the press conference in a few minutes. I'll try to update with tweets from reporters.

Attorney says circumstances prompted previous statements from the family. "This is one of those times."
Attorney Patricia Carroll says TPD spent more time investigating woman in Winston case than Winston himself.
Carroll: "If this doesn't strongly ring of an investigation of a rape victim rather than a rape suspect, I don't know what does."
Carroll: "At the end of the day, the young lady was hysterical. She was reluctant to report the rape."
Carroll: The woman had partial amnesia, a head ache and other symptoms consistent with a "rape drug."
Lawyer calling on atty general to look into how this case was handled by state and Tallahassee police.
Attorney: "Do I believe this failure of an investigation was related to the fact he was on the football team? I do."
The attorney for Jameis Winston accuser says they are not looking into a civil suit: "It's premature to say that right now."
Lawyer says information in medical records "is not redacted; it's missing entirely."
Attorney now admits they did cut off contact with TPD, but says it is because they were scared of TPD.
Attorney asked about witness statements supporting Winston. "They were made by football teammates." Suggests Casher's account inconsistent
Attorney says the witness statements supporting Winston were "patently false."
Carroll: "It was very obvious as this progressed that we didn't feel we were going to get a proper investigation."
Carroll said she believes her client was drugged earlier at a bar, that she had foolishly accepted a drink from someone.
Attorney says the accuser's memory was intermittent after "a big black guy" gave her a shot at the bar; consistent with someone drugged
Carroll: woman in Winston case was a "perfect target" because she was underage and in a bar.
Carroll: "She's not doing well but she is a strong person." The woman had to drop out of sorority, leave the campus that she loves
Lawyer: "Sometimes it's not about football; sometimes it's just about rape."
Accuser's attorney: Accuser's sorority has been "targeted." Tires slashed.
Carroll: Meggs "didn't do enough to make a filing decision. He could have done a lot more than he did."

I agree with her attorney, the victim was put on trail here and not the suspect. Everything about this case just seems like the complete opposite of the way a normal rape investigation would be handled. From the very start, the TPD was out to protect the FSU football player and discount the victim's story. This press conference just confirms my feeling that Winston is a criminal who is getting away with rape because of a homer police department and DA.

Unfortunately, the sports media will burry this story because it will interfere with the great and wonderful Winston Heisman narrative of the weekend.

How incompetent was/is the Tallahassee Police Department? Link

If police had conducted the inquiry better, they said, prosecutors might have closed the case months ago — and without so many unanswered questions.

"This is criminal investigation 101, it seems to me. It's a real failure," said Samuel Walker, author and emeritus professor of criminal justice at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. "The question in my mind is: Are they incompetent or was this willful?"
