LGBTQ Issues: Will We Choose Love and Acceptance or Hate and Oppression? (Part 2)

You'd think Europe had banned the practice if republicans and totally nots were to be believed. Far from it. Many have continued or expanded access and provide more comprehensive care than is even available to many here (unfortunately for our youth our mental health system is in shambles). Clinical trials have been expanded. Some restrictions have been placed and caution has been advised. Most are trying to deepen their understanding and gain more knowledge, not simply close off access and ignore the needs of this population.
My favorite part of this is I referenced the article you posted and you came at me like I made it up. Fun times.

You misrepresented what was said by comparing what the judge said to what Desantis has done. They couldn't be any more different. So pretend all you did was reference the judge if you like. Doesn't make it so.
Could you restate this post in a different way? I’m not following your point. I quoted the judge because I thought it was funny and referenced the article about Europe.

You missed it. The judge didn’t say anything about the European countries. He said the quote about political winds changing. The information about the European countries wasn’t a quote but information inserted into the article by the author. Back to my original question. Are all those European health agencies fascists like DeSantis?

They are not in the same ballpark.

Desantis' problem is that, like many, he is ignorant but suffers from a corresponding arrogance while refusing to acknowledge the rights of those he does not understand. He is not interested in truly learning or in allowing new knowledge in that might change his mind. He scours for that one poorly conducted study or those few people with just enough knowledge to be dangerous (but have credentials to give an air of legitimacy) that go against what the vast majority of research and experienced specialists say and then pretends that the poorly conducted/educated few outweigh the vast mountain.

The same thing happens with climate change, vaccines, etc;...

European countries are, by and large, moving to increase research and to offer more comprehensive and better evidence-based treatments.

They have asked questions and are seeking answers, not putting their heads in the sand.

There is definitely an anti-trans backlash in Europe, not too different from here.

But while people like Desantis are outlawing treatments even for adults, Europe is not taking that path - not even for younger folks.

This sounds suspiciously like not treating minors with puberty blockers to me. I do agree that adults can do whatever they want. That doesn't mean it should be on the government dime, but if they want to cut things off they are adults.

Sigh...

From the article:

Puberty blockers will now only be available to young people in clinical research trials and some private clinics, UK’s PA Media reported Tuesday. Fewer than 100 young people are currently on puberty blockers via the NHS and they will be able to continue the treatment, it added.

Those currently being treated will continue to be treated.

They are conducting clinical research and funneling minors to the research and puberty blockers will be available there.

And some private clinics can continue treating minors.

The treatment is not barred by law as it was in Desantis' republican Florida.

I mean, did you even get past the headline?

Yes I got the point. NHS has stopped it except for trials and private clinics. I expect them to stop it completely once they finish the "research". You are intentionally minimizing the fact that the single payer system of the UK has called foul and stopped. I'm blown away that you can't see how significant it is that their entire single payer system said no more.

A gross mischaracterization, as usual.

Rep. Robert Garcia:

We know there are a lot of threats to the health and well-being of our service members, like poisoned water on military bases, toxic mold in military housing, PTSD, and suicide. So I'm stunned to see that the Republicans' idea to protect our troops is actually to ban drag shows. My Republican colleagues want us to believe that 'gays are trying to murder us.' They want people to believe drag is immoral and wrong.

I hate to break it to my Republican colleagues, but LGBTQ+ people have fought and died for this country since the American Revolution, even if they were forced to hide their true selves. We know inclusion in our military is good for our country. We want to welcome anyone who wants to serve.

I would invite my Republican colleagues to join me at a drag show in the future. You'll see that drag is not a threat to anyone. Republicans are trying to legitimize an extremist narrative

Ed Krassenstein:

If you are outraged that a city would paint a rainbow crosswalk on the street in order to respect the historically discriminated against LGBTQ+ community, but you are perfectly fine with towns putting Christmas decorations up in order to celebrate a holiday that many people don’t celebrate, aren’t you a hypocrite?

Many of these same people who are outraged over the Pride crosswalks were also the ones who were adamantly against moving statues of racist, confederate losers from the streets in cities and towns and into museums.

The pride flag isn’t a religious or political affiliation. It’s a symbol of respect for a historically isolated and discriminated group of people. It's a celebration of freedom and liberty to be who you want to be.
I agree that some people take things too far (i.e. transgender women playing women's sports), but the vile displays of hate toward the LGBTQ+ community are disgusting.

It's ironic, because I hear over and over again, "Gay people have just as many rights and acceptance in America as straight people" all of the time. Yet, these people are also the ones who are celebrating the destruction and hate that's being spewed at the LGBTQ+ community on social media on a daily basis.

this is heartbreaking

The final words of a decorated veteran and respected community member left a bittersweet impression this Pride month when his lifelong secret was finally shared – but only in a message released posthumously.

This could get interesting...

"Whistleblower", my backside.

This jerk illegally accessed, illegally copied, and illegally shared private and personally identifiable health information (including names of patients).

This "man" should not be a doctor.

He actually faces up to $250,000 and 10 years in prison per offense (meaning each time he did it)since he did this under false pretenses with intent to share the information. The article makes it seem like that is the total he could face, but potentially it's a lot more.

Absolutely disgusting.

Club Q shooter sentenced to life in prison plus 190 years after pleading guilty to federal hate crime and gun charges

Sweeney, the first LGBTQ+ federal judge to serve in Colorado, did not have the discretion to impose a different sentence, she told them, citing the plea agreement. But she emphasized the importance of Aldrich’s decision to plead guilty: In doing so, she said, Aldrich admitted to carrying out the attack because of the victims’ “actual or perceived gender identity or sexual orientation.”

“This community is stronger than your armor, stronger than your weapons and stronger than your hatred,” she told Aldrich, nothing she was sentencing him during Pride Month.
