Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

I don't know about that one. I'm as big a Bama fan as they come, but if players pulled me out of my car and kicked the stuffing out of me in the street you can bet I'd be pressing charges. (Assuming my scrawny butt lived to tell the tale.)
if multiple people pulled me out of a car, i guarantee you that the least of their worries would be the law. if one man puts a whupping on me, i'll take it like a man. if many people put a whupping on me, they had best have their insurance up to date and tell their families to leave town. it is amazing to me that people don't get killed in incidents like this.

Saw this on another board this AM. I am not friend of this reporter so I don't have link. Jacques Doucet is sports reporter for local BTR station.

Reliable source - from lawyer representing four kids injured in fight allegedly involving LSU football players.

"Jordan Jefferson is the least of LSU's concerns."

What a messed up day. I just wanna cover games and enjoy sports, believe me.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

Nope..Not good at all..Here's more

Les Miles has offered an apology to the LSU community

While no charges have been filed as of yet, head coach Les Miles lashed out at his LSU players who were involved in a bar fight very early Friday morning.

Using words like “unacceptable” and “miserable”, as well as apologizing to the community and the program’s fans for the incident, Miles spoke publicly for the first time on the incident involving his players — he did release a statement Saturday — and expressed deep dissatisfaction with what transpired two days ago.

“I can tell you that the last couple of days have been miserable for us, that we’ve been involved in behavior that’s unacceptable to me, certainly unacceptable to our team — guys that broke team rules and violated curfew,” Miles said. “I can tell you and assure you that this will not happen again. I can tell you that there’s a remorseful team here."

“I personally want to apologize for the actions of my team.”

Starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson had been the only player specifically connected to the fight that ended with four males with injuries that required medical treatment, but Miles mentioned Saturday that starting offensive lineman T-Bob Hebert was involved as well. Miles indicated that all of his players were accounted for at Thursday night’s 10:30 p.m. curfew; the incident at an off-campus bar occurred roughly three hours later. The players involved have already seen internal punishment meted out for breaking curfew.

Police are continuing their investigation into the brawl, although no suspects have been identified. A Baton Rouge Police spokesperson told the Baton Rouge Advocate it’s the department’s “understanding that these four guys that were battered wish to pursue charges against the person or persons responsible.”

Athletic director Joe Alleva released a statement as well, making it clear that, like Miles said, the behavior of the players was unacceptable and cast a negative light on the university as a whole.

“We will not tolerate student-athletes whose irresponsible actions tarnish the good name of a great university,” Alleva’s statement read. “LSU student-athletes are expected to behave with the understanding that they represent their school, their fellow students and the long history of this program, regardless of the time of day,” said Alleva.

“Coach Miles has already begun taking disciplinary action. It is critical that we are deliberate in determining the facts surrounding this incident and as Coach Miles said, when the facts are clear, additional and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken if necessary.”

I've met very few 18 year olds that I would consider to be adults, I don't care what the laws say.
My daughter was very much an adult when she was 18. My son....that's a whole 'nother story. Bars, to this day (he's 26 now) are still not the best places for him, but he has learned a lot from his experiences.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

The more reputable New Orleans Times Picayune newspaper reports that the police have not even interviewed any of the LSU players and that the four players in question will be summoned on Monday to give their side of the story. There are no arrest warrents pending according to police department spokesmen.

Jordan Jefferson, three other players to be interviewed by Baton Rouge Police

It should be noted that most of the sordid reports in the media so far have come from friends of the other party in the brawl, not the police. The LSU players have been forbidden from talking to the media. There is likely a lot more of this story to be revealed when the police investigation is completed and they make a statement.

Les is enraged about the 20 or so players that made curfew, then broke it and went to the bar, especially the senior team leaders. Suspensions for that alone would not surprise me even though most of them were not involved in the fight.

I agree that there hasn't been any "official" word from the police department on what happened. But I can tell you if even some of what's been rumored is true somebody could very well spend some time in jail.

Probably not for simple battery, but definitely for second degree battery which is a felony. Second degree battery usually involves the infliction of serious injuries and since all of the alleged victims declined EMT treatment at the scene and were treated and released by the ER after their lawyers made them go to the hospital, serious injuries seem unlikely. Of course, all it would take would be a broken rib to make it a felony.

A felony conviction could mean university dismissal and jail. Misdemeanor simple battery could still get a player dismissed from the team and certainly suspended. Les is not in a good mood. I expect LSU to play Oregon with 4 players suspended or dismissed. The other 12 to 16 players who broke curfew might get a game suspension, too. Les is not in a good mood.

WTH, LSU? Is it just me or does this all not seem like a repeat story of a previous quarterback for LSU that transferred...Perrilloux wasn't it?
I agree with Cullman Tide, the police "interview" is sounding more like a formality....

This isn't looking good for anyone involved.

Multiple witnesses. Enough injuries to warrant felonious charges. Arrests tomorrow (depending on which article you read).

I hate this for LSU.

I hope they do the right thing but waiting till Monday seems like lazy police work. Les does appear irritated to say the least.

While I was in school I witnessed guys on our team (on more than one occasion) "put hands on" guys who were dumb enough to not realize that they pretty much work out for a living. I even saw one of our basketball players whip a guy for getting drunk and passing out on his car. I had an opportunity to spend some time with a particular player who was a senior on the 99 team. Since he had had an opportunity to play for Coach Stallings, he said whenever they got into scuffles all coach wanted to know is if they won the fight.

Said all that to say this:

I wonder how far they took this. Football players all over the country hold court at bars all the time.

So I'm wondering if this is just another example of the sissification of America (with ambulance chasers to boot) or if these LSU players really DID go overboard with it. Can't wait til the details come out.
