Looks like Mack Brown will make DJ Monroe available for the game, if press reports about the DUI are correct. Maybe our longhorn friends can speak to this more directly. Assuming this is true, the question then becomes will we kick to him? What do you guys think?
\\

If they will kick to Ours, I promise we will kick to theirs!!!!!!:)

Seeing how spotty our kickoff coverage has been all year, I'll agree to eliminate kickoffs and let the receiving team take the ball at its 35 instead. Besides, I admire Javier Arenas too much. I don't want another reason to dislike him on Jan. 8th.

It's strange to see an opposing team's fan talk about their spotty kickoff coverage. I thought we were the only ones seriously concerned about this.

Haden from UF actually grabbed JJ about as much as Peterson. It's the only way to guard him, so they just take a chance on PI on every route. So far, it's working out for them. It'll be interesting to see how the BE refs view it...

Yea I noticed that uf got away with almost as much as lswho but I am getting used to seeing JJ mugged and it will be very interesting to see how the officials call this game. I did not know it was going to be Big East guys calling the game maybe I should of taped some of their conference games to see how they call the game........ Oh well you can't tape them all unless CNS wants to send me some tapes so I could take a look see...... :)

If the refs called true PI it would be a disaster for both teams. Too much hand-checking.
I've made a practice of trying to compare the amount of hand-checking we do, vs. what our opponents have and I concluded that we defend in a much "cleaner" fashion. I think that part of that is that CNS is such an excellent DB coach. You start grabbing when you're "out of phase." CNS' DBs are in phase more than most of the DBs we play against. I think we have less to lose from a tightly-called game. That's partially because, if they can't hold JJ, then they can't defend him, unless they double him...

Since JJ is a more physical receiver than Shipley, do you think we will see any PI calls against a UT defender on JJ? I think it'd be easier for Shipley to sell the PI than JJ b/c of the style of receiver that each is.

I agree Earle I hope they call this game like it should be called and not let their DB's hang all over JJ... If they call it tight we should benefit since hanging on and grasping at the WR is not a CNS coaching strategy...
I still believe doubling won't help them with JJ unless the first guy is allowed to grab him much like florida was doing, hayden would mug him then wright would come help him finish off the mugging and those 2 idiots danielson and whatever his should of retired along time ago name is kept saying it was good defense........ Good if you like florida but illegal everywhere else~!~

Hey Earle have you watched any of the Big East games this year??? I watched some of the Pitt / Cinn game and if I remember right they called Pitt on PI more than a couple of times but then again I am not sure if that was even BE officials. I assume it would be so hopefully they will call a little tighter when it comes to OBVIOUS holding and grabbing by the DB's........ It also seems a great defense on JJ is to just miraculously get your feet all tangled up when he has you beat, amazing how that always seems to happen at just the right time>>>>>>>> :(

I was under the impression that the BE guys called a little tighter. Watching a couple of their games, I remember seeing both PI and OL holding calls which wouldn't have been called in the SEC...

Are you sure you want to make that claim about a guy who averages 3.2 receptions and 44 yards a game? I don't want to come off as mean, but it seems kind of silly to me along with the whole pass interference discussion. Both teams have great secondaries and both may grab a WR at the wrong time. That's just football. The calls should be too few and far between to be able to project in any reasonable way.

As for covering Jones I don't expect Texas to double him at all except for the usual over the top cover 1 help from Blake Gideon. Geoff Ketchum on orangebloods was speculating that Texas may line Aaron Williams on him exclusively to shut him down, but I don't think they'll bother. Besides they like Williams in the middle of the field where teams have a tougher time avoiding him.

Williams is a guy who even Colt avoids in practice, but he is a bit of a secret to the media because he doesn't have many stats. It was funny in the Baylor game where their coaches didn't do their homework and decide to attack AJ. The result was three attempts leading to 1 INT and 2 pass breakups.

I'll be shocked if Coach Mac shares your view.

I definitely think single covering JJ is the way to go. He is slow (5.1 in the 40), runs sloppy routes and can't catch at all. He is kind of tall but that is about it. Why in the world would you waste an extra player on JJ???

You know JJ missed about 1/4 of the season when doing your averages right? He has been fully healthy for only a few games, so the numbers are misleading. I hope yall do try to single cover him, just like I hope yall try to contain our run with only 7 in the box. If you're hung up on numbers, look at JJ's numbers from the first few games of last year (before he gets nicked up and before teams start doubling him) and I think you'll get a little more respect for him. But as I said earlier, I hope your coaching staff thinks of JJ the same as you do.
