I put on the BCS NCG today, and of course seen Brian Kelly's halftime interview. It got me wondering, what do you think the Notre Dame brass said, if anything, to Brian Kelly about a pretty much "defeated" interview. Now I know they were getting beat on, and he really didn't have an answer for ALABAMA, but I just couldn't believe his reaction. It was like he hadn't seen a force like Alabama before.

Anyways, the question is, do you think the ND brass said anything to Brian Kelly about it?

...It was like he hadn't seen a force like Alabama before....
He hadn't. But to get an idea of what happens when Nick Saban has five weeks to prepare, and his team has five weeks to heal up from a brutal schedule that only other SEC teams truly understand, he should have called Mark Dantoni (Mich State) or Les Miles.

There isn't a scheme in the world that works when both your lines are being blasted three yards back on first contact, your offensive skill players are markedly slower than their defensive counterparts, and the back five on your defense can't stay in the same zip code as the guys they're assigned to cover.

There simply was no answer, and he and anybody watching knew it.

I would imagine it was a sombering moment for all of the ND faithful, including the ND brass. They may over value their own importance but they don't strike me as a group that's out of touch with reality. Going forward, that game will probably prove to be a good thing for them. It gave them a reality check about where they are and, for their sake, it will allow them to go back to work rebuilding the program. I saw the recent stadium expansions they are announcing and it looks like they're putting the recent success back into the program.

On a personal note, it would be fine with me if that thing burned to the ground. :)

Did Mark Richt have to give a halftime speech in 2008? I'm sure it would have been similar.

Actually, in recent interviews Brian Kelly has backtracked and said that after reviewing game film, Notre Dame was and is much closer to providing formidable opposition for Alabama and the SEC than he thought they were during the game. Expects to be back in the championship game and get the job done if not next year, soon.

That's about what I would expect him to say... now.

Hahaha, ok, coach...

They were over achievers for sure and had we not lost our starting center, with no one really to replace him, I think we beat LSU and the barn.
Without those injuries I think we go to a major bowl game that year and possibly win the SEC.

As for the ND coach interview, at first I was shocked at what he said, one look at the score again and I thought what could he say? Like those on this board, after us going up 14-0 they probably thought the same.

I doubt he really believes that. That game wasn't the result of just being out schemed, it was total domination and could have been much worse if not for Coach Saban easing up after 35-0.

I've been to several ND boards since then and the more realistic Domers often ask what they have to do to catch up with us.

Of course there's a lot of them that think that game was just an anomoly. :D
