Re: More LSU smack talk

Talk is cheap, and we have a few more games yet before Nov 5th and the teams before then are going to be tougher than Vandy.
Actually no they're not. Vandy beat Ole Miss and now with Bray out for UcheaT I'd wager they can beat them as well. Vandy may not have much of an offense, but their defense is better than both OM and UcheaT.

Re: More LSU smack talk

Of course not. The majority of the smack usually comes from the fans, which is true of most every school. That's natural, and I guess they can afford to talk smack, considering their position - in the bleachers, or in front of their TV.
... or from behind a keyboard. :cool2:

It seems that usually the worst smackers are those that have never played the game, rarely if ever attend games, but sit and play EA all day and then think that they know football.

Re: More LSU smack talk

I honestly feel that LSU is starting to become little cocky, and full of themselves. That Tim Tebow pass that they pulled confirmed it all for me. I think they'll walk on the field against Alabama all hyped up and they will make few mistakes that will cost them early in the game. You don't hear Alabama talking smack about LSU or anything else. CNS trained the team to look at opponents one at a time, and LSU is looking ahead right now.
you are right, and that is when teams start slipping up

Re: More LSU smack talk

I'm concerned a bit, because we're not going to have a Bama/LSU smack thread. The Vandy thread was an anomaly, not to be repeated. LSU fans are not welcome to try and turn this into a smack thread - particularly with three weeks still to go before we play...
before my grandmother passed away she gave me some very very good advice. keep your words soft and sweet, you may have to eat them one day. talk is cheap and don't mean a thing. Nov. 5 will take care of itself. i've said all year long OU will have an eye on that game. good news for OU, you prob. just stamped your ticket to the BCS title game by beating Texas like a rented mule. Bad News, you will probably play Alabama or LSU. let that sink in for a second. OU may pull a choke job before the end of the year and let Wisconson take that beating....

not to be a wet blanket, but thats how you get beat in the SEC. you look past a team.

i personally dislike all this LSU talk. yes it's a big game and i am looking forward to it as well, but i'm looking forward to mississippi more because that's the next game. Nov. 5th won't mean a thing unless our record is unblemished. the season goes way too fast to look ahead. enjoy one game at a time. forget LSU until oct 22nd around 11 pm. just my opinion.

Re: More LSU smack talk

The biggest thing I'm worried about is LSU's passing game...they won't run much on us. It seems like our DB's have been giving opposing receivers a lot of space lately, and LSU has the receivers to make them pay. And Dre is still getting beat deep a lot, a Vandy receiver beat him deep and it should've been a TD, but the receiver dropped a very catchable pass. Arkansas was getting their receivers in space a lot against us, but there lack of pass blocking and a running game hurt them badly. LSU doesn't lack those things.

Although I don't understand why people keep saying LSU has a better DL. In every game I've watched we've been getting to the quarterback a lot quicker. I remember against WVU that QB had all day to make those throws. Their cornerbacks are, however, much better. I mean Menzie, Dre, and DMil are great, but not on the level of Claiborne and Matthieu.
I disagree. They gave up 240 yards to the ducks, who aren't really a passing team, and they have yet to play anyone who can be called a decent passing team. Lizards might have qualified with Brantley somewhat, but not with a 3rd string qb.

I know that we are only fans and discussing LSU will not impact the focus that the team has on Ole Miss this week, but last season was too painful for me to start counting those chickens before they hatch again. I believe that the only thing that can beat Bama this year is Bama (yes, I believe that if we play our game against LSU, we will win). But I also remember 3 losses last year to teams with less ability than Bama.

Dare I begin to believe like I did back in the 70s? Maybe - but I'm just not there yet.

Re: More LSU smack talk

Well I use to pull for LSU and party with them quite a bit until they started the waaaa you stole our coach thing and started hating on Saban. My brother in law nearly got in a fight at one game because the LSU fan in front of him wouldn't stop with the offensive language in front of his kids. Yes every single fan base has those types of fans, it just seems they have more. I guess I'm tired of hearing it at work from this one bayou guy who just won't stop with the constant talk of how we're going to lose on Nov 5th.
I don't think the Saban thing is much of an issue anymore. Les beat Saban last year, and that's all it took. In hindsight, it was a good thing. We don't need any more toxic rivalries. I respect LSU, and I think they realize that although their coach is quirky and unorthodox and sometimes eats grass, he's a WINNER. You just can't dispute that. He'll go down as one of their legendary coaches. That being the case, this rivalry is pretty much healthy again, and those statements made by LSU fans weren't smack talking. We say the same stuff about our team, and it's to be expected. We're all cautiously optimistic here, but REALLY, we know how good our guys are too.

Personally, I'm just concerned about getting past Ole Miss and UT without injuries. I'm not particularly worried about beating those guys, I just want us to come out of those games HEALTHY. The 2 weeks prior to the LSU game is plenty of time for me to get fired up for that game and I'll rest easier about it knowing our guys are 100% injury free.

The problem I have with LSU is that at times they don't seem to respect their opponent. Take the Brad Wing penalty. LSU players were laughing at the fact that he cause them a TD with his showboating. Now let me ask you this, if that situation happened against Bama, would they still be laughing? No, they would not. Which means they didn't seem to have much respect for Florida.

Now it is entirely possible I am looking way too much into that but them laughing after a penalty just bugs me. But oh well, let's handle Ole Miss this saturday and work from there.

I don't think so. If it were a Tide player costing the team a TD, neither CNS, any of the coaches or even one single player would be laughing. Not even a little bit.
