Supposively something to do with his mentor, even though he never was an assistant at LSU. I don't understand it. He had everything a softball program could ask for. Great facilities, amazing fan support, great talent pool, etc.

Murphy will replace retiring coach Yvette Girouard, who gave him his coaching start at Louisiana-Lafayette, where he was an assistant from 1990-94.

Well if thats the case then Mal really dropped the ball. I think this is a step backwards for CPM and a mistake...he had it good in T-Town. I may be flamed but I'm none to happy with him for leaving. I hope we pound LSU as they come to T-Town next season.

Depends who Mal brings in now on how bad this actually is. Murphy is a great coach, but last year being the number 1 seed and not even making it to the CWS was bad. Only getting to play in the winners bracket of the WCWS is also not a good mark. He will be missed, but we will be alright IF MM makes a good hire.

At least that answers the question of why he didn't do much "coaching" in the WCWS games, especially when UA played UF.

Well, now we know why he wasn't overly upset with our implosion vs UF. I was disturbed by his lack of passion. He didn't even seem upset. I guess now we know why - he was already emotionally out of it.

Crap. Mal Function dropped the ball with softball for years. He asked for money to build the new indoor facility and was told there was no money to build it. Murphy goes out and raises the money himself. He has put us on the softball map. Hopefully Vann Studeman stays and gets the job. Maybe she can take us to new heights.

If Deas is right about the money issue, there is no excuse for Mal letting him get away.

If Murphy had this set before the WCWS then good riddance! I would be in favor of Vann Studemann as our coach since she is not going with CPM.

Check Tommy Deas Twitterfeed, but he said that UA matched LSU's offer. Y'all don't be so quick to throw Mal under the bus.

Alabama offered to match LSU's offer, making Murphy the highest paid softball coach in the country. He left anyway.

He didn't tell them until after he made the decision today. He's calling them one by one.

that's a gigantic 'if'. I don't know how much he knows about softball, or coaches....I wouldn't know where to start.

I'm certainly not going to get into sparring with fellow Tide fans. However, I've got to ask Bama Reb, do you have some proof to go with that statement? Otherwise, that is nothing more than a guess, and an uneducated one at that.

I'm disappointed in how poorly we played last Sunday, I'm disappointed (as I write this) that CPM left, but I'll not make any disparaging comments or remarks until such time as someone can provide evidence that makes him worthy of such commentary. Then, I'll not need to make any comments, as that job has already been filled.
