Of note, in the middle-left is the famous bridge built during French occupation. It was far superior to anything else in the country and still stands. Since the communist takeover, many other bridges have been built as the city has grown. All the new bridges collapsed shortly after they were built due to graft. Funds allocated for building projects are largely stolen, leaving only money for inferior or insufficient building materials. Bridges, roads, dams, etc. soon fail, killing many people each year.

I visited a friend of mine today who is also a plant nut. I brought him some of the fruit off my Tuckeri Alexander Palm.

He has a massive & diverse Cycad collection. Knows every variety by name and where they are native to.

Cycads have male plants and females plants. If you are in possession of one of each, then you can hand pollinate the female with pollen from the male. He said he mixes the pollen with water and applies with a syringe. We had some very good discussions over the course of an hour. Days like this are special......

Back in 1989, I changed direction closing my first landscaping company when the economy had a slow period and took a job as a full time gardener for a New York millionaire who had a winter home in Port Royal, Naples. I've mentioned him a couple times before.. He's the founder of Cablevision - one of the first cable companies. Interesting man who I learned a few things from regarding business.

Well I really didn't know anyone in Naples when I got there but as time went by of course that evolves and you end up with new friendships and alliances.

There was one guy who liked to stir fry and would invite me over and do a stir fry dinner once in a while. He was really passionate about it and to this day whenever someone mentions stir fry I think about those days when I made a right turn in business and it ended up changing my whole life.

There's also a story about my first week as a Senior in college when my new roommate had a friend come over to make turtle soup. A whole other story for another time.....
