Normally I agree, but how much progress have you seen from this OL? The tackles have been playing for awhile now, and they could not come close to stopping the DEs one-on-one. I'm not sure how much more playing time they need until they are "good." Unfortunately, playing true FR isn't a solution either. Maybe Johnson as a RS might have a shot at getting playing time at LT. I agree with Smith getting a shot at LG, with Caldwell moving to C. Don't forget Marlon Davis in the mix as well.
 
ping if we have the same line i feel srry for the qb cause he will get killed cause capps and tatum (which if we get tebow will be his blind side) and capps just plain suxs and has all year and i can't blame taylor britt cause he just began to play
 
If these guys show the same improvement that Kyle Tatum has, they might turn out alright. The best thing about bringing in these young guys is depth and competition. Depth is something that hasn't been there, especially at OL, and having to fight to keep your job generally makes you work harder and get better. I think Smith comes in and makes a push for LG if he doesn't win the job outright. Being able to RS Ross would be wonderful, but if he's as good as some say, he could really push to be a starter, too.

Guys, Tatum has played very well this year. He has not been a problem at tackle. Our other O-linemen have been the problem. And what did you expect? Capps is just not that good an OL, and I will be thoroughly disappointed if M. Johnson doesn't take some of his PT next year, because MJ has a lot of talent and potential. As for our interior, they've missed assignments and gotten pushed into the backfield all year, but they are just RS freshmen. I feel good about Stabler and Caldwell in the future, they are solid linemen. The bottom line is that we right now are paying the price for Franchione's ineptitude in recruiting O-linemen. Thus, we have to move DL to OL (Tatum), start two freshmen, and play a walk-on as a backup center. I feel very good about the future of the OL at Alabama, especially with the quality of players that Shula is recruiting at the position.
 
Now, the OL line did as wellas their ability and experience allowed,blesstheir hearts. However, if a top lineman is looking for EARLY playing time, just come on down! I am sure a player of the caliber ofAndre Smith or Taylor Pharr are looking for a lot of playing time next year.

We knew coming in this would be the Achilles heel of the Tide this year and we did great despite the weakness which has been sorely exposed with the injury to JB. However, these young men have brought the Tide back to a great starting point for next year.
 
To the mods or other gurus, are we recruiting any true fullbacks this year? McClain and Castille will both be seniors next year and unless I am forgetting about someone behind them, that we leave us awfully thin in a hurry.

recruiting, yes.....offering, no....

Corey Patterson, Reggie Hicks, the Hargrave FB, Sedderick Holloway have all been recruited. Some of these guys report offers, but I'm not sure ANY of them are completely firm.

The closest thing to a fullback that has a solid offer is Cordera Eason. Rumors have swirled to changes within, to Cole Harvey making the switch to FB.

RE: the OL

With the poor performance of the LT, Andre Smith may get a direct shot at the job if he comes in. Personally, I think he'd be a perfect LG, but at this point, LT can be his b/c I know that's what he prefers to play and we desperately need help there.

Caldwell may make the move to C, but Cardwell has been getting some props for his play at C. Ross will get a chance to see PT at G or C.

Marlon Davis and BJ Stabler will be fine at the RG spot in the end.

Michael Johnson will get a look at both tackle spots.

Taylor Pharr needs the RS to bulk up....probably the most out of all of them, but has great technique. Ross will likely RS, too, if at all possible. The same needs to be said for Stadler, but, he's the closest physically to being ready of the current commits.

I think I'm going to spearhead the JJ to FB movement. He might be able to put on some more muscle( :eek2: ) and become a monster. I'm guessing that Ford and Upchurch will probably have something to say about the TB depth chart this winter and spring and Johns just looks like he doesn't mind doing whatever it takes to try and win ball games. On the other hand, if he beats those guys out for 2nd string TB, he can very easily turn into a wrecking ball that defenses would hate to play against. Again, the great attitude he has shown so far leads me to think that the coaches would ask him to make a position change if needed. And he would respond the way great players do.

I have noticed this. Is FB a position that the staff likes to "develop", moreso than recruiting one? BTW, RTG, that seems an excellent idea! Wish we had 2or3 more like JJ. Seems he could play anywhere on the field!
 
Jimmy Johns is too talented to put at FB, IMO. He can make so many other things happen, we need to get him the ball more than fiveish times a game.

First off, he's only getting a couple of carries a game at TB so moving to FB wouldn't limit his touches very much. He would still be on the coverage teams to make special teams plays. Secondly, how can you say that he's too talented? That doesn't even make sense. Imagine a backfield in two years with Ford and Johns as the every-down players and Johns being the TB in short yardage with an undersized OL(Cole Harvey) as the FB. Besides, it wasn't that long ago that a FB by the name of Kevin Turner made game-breaking plays for Bama. THAT is what I mean by moving JJ to FB.

What exactly is JJ's height and weight? I've heard anywhere from 6'2" 230, to 6'4" 235.

IF he was 6'4" 235, he would be a heck of a DE with his speed, or a heck of an OLB.

we might not get him anyways.....I've said for a while that he might need to hurry b/c his top 3 (UGA, Bama, and Barn) were filling up at WR or in the class entirely.

Bama will likely take the first 2 out of Hawthorne, Alexander, Fayson, McCoy, and Courtney Smith. Maybe 3 if the right one was left out to begin with.
