Somewhere in Texas there is a person who was directly responsible for this childs death.
I find it interesting that the media has not said a word about the outbreak, other than to say it is in "West Texas". I would be interested to know how many of the cases are from undocumented individuals that came across the border in the last few years.

Deaths in America from 1999 to 2025
Suicide: 1,100,000
Overdose: 1,500,000
Heart attack: 17,800,000
Measles: 4

I can't speak for RFK but it seems he's more focused on the general public's overall health (obesity, chemicals/poisons in the food supply etc), which is - by far - the greater killer.

Again, I'm pro-MMR, etc. but in the decade before the measles vaccine was introduced the US averaged 400-500 deaths per year per the CDC. I expect focusing on the bigger issues facing our health is where the bigger payoff will be. I'd love it if he were pro-vaccines (specifically the long-proven vaxs) but the reality is you can save a LOT more lives by cleaning up the food supply.

Do both and it's a homerun.

There were 16 measles outbreaks in 2024 alone. To your point, I would love to get some demographic information regarding this stat. I've questioned it before, but all I got were less-than-subtle accusations of being xenophobic or outright racist, which is demonstrably ridiculous.

Here is some info from a column written last year by an epidemiologist I follow:

Interesting data. I do wish the author had more up-to-date numbers, though. The last four years have seen a big bump in border crossings and on top of that, the Biden admin was flying people in. The part that left me puzzled was why travelers are picking up measles abroad in the first place. Do we really have that many people walking around unvaccinated? And why?

Don't get me wrong, the article was good, but it left me with more questions than answers.

Doing things for the common good isn’t appreciated by a sizable portion of the population. To them, medical neglect is ok when excused in the name of parental rights.
It's sad - especially when kids die unnecessarily - but the value of the individual over your neighbor in all things has eroded a lot of our society's historic strengths. You see it in things like this (vaccination) but also in everyday life, where people don't even think about or care how their actions affect those around them

I know we had a lot of faults in our society 40 years ago, but generally speaking people still showed basic respect to one another at a much higher level than they do today.

COVID, Trumpism, and "the jab" really did a mind warp on a lot of people that get their news solely from talking heads. That's why people are trying to make Ivermectin (human kind, not horse) an over-the-counter drug in Alabama.

I think it's a mistake to diminish the effect that childhood vaccines have had on the USA (not to mention the rest of the world). Kennedy's stance on vaccines is despicable and unforgivable. I'm not willing to say ok to the anti-vax movement in exchange for an investigation into food safety and chronic disease. That's not a choice I'm willing to accept.

Obesity is definitely a major health concern, but I'm unsure what the government's going to do about it, shy of taking away people's choices when it comes to what and how much they eat. Education certainly hasn't helped, so I'm open to hearing some ideas. School lunches might be a good place to start, but the increased cost might be prohibitive in today's environment. Plus, I remember the conservative reaction to Michelle Obama's efforts in that area.

I am interested in the number of lives lost to chemicals/poisons in our food supply and would like to see some more information on that.

Oh, I'm not trying to minimize it, just offering some perspective. We have the unhealthiest youth in our history, and they become unhealthy adults. A huge percentage of early deaths in the US stem from preventable causes.

A good start is to mimic the bans on chemicals and GRAS crap that most of the developed world has banned but is legal in the US. There's a reason the US is so wealthy, so unhealthy, and therefore spends so much money on long-term healthcare.

Big food and big pharma love making us sick and keeping us that way.

There's a LOT of research out there - the reality is you're not going to keel over from eating bread containing potassium bromate, but the cancer it causes will show up some day. There are tons and tons of examples of these sorts of additives that are legal in the US but banned in most other developed countries. Our food supply is as bought and sold as any other corrupt, over-lobbied aspect of our lives.
