Such a shame, when the majority of Belarusians want nothing to do with becoming Russians...
The other day, I broke my rule of not arguing on the internet. An obvious Putin lackey on YouTube was arguing that only 15% of the world supported Ukraine, the US and NATO, and that the BRICs nations were aligned with Putin, as well as "the rest of the world". I responded: Well, how many of those nations are either under the bull's eye for Russian aggression, or have a long history of Russian aggression. Ask the people of the Baltic states, the Fins, the Belarussians, Poland, Hungary, Czech, Slovakia....ask those people whether they want Putin to be their jefe?

I am not sure where he get that stat from anyway. Does everyone in Europe support Ukraine? Not exactly. One of my German colleagues comes to work daily spouting RT lines.
On the other hand, does everyone in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, South Asia support the Kremlin? I seriously doubt that as well. Some are certainly paid to support the Kremlin, but most probably do not care.

I think history will look back on the invasion of Ukraine as the straw that broke the camel's back. Putin wanted to rebuild the USSR, but I think he'll essentially just FF to the end of the union.

A desperate Russia combined with China in decline make for a very dangerous next decade or two.
I share your concern here. Between now and the time they finally collapse, they can cause a ton of trouble.

Doomed, having nothing to lose, and being led by Putin and Xi is a truly scary combination.

A perspective piece on Putin's speech by Brzezinski...

Brzezinski
I’m curious on why Brzezinski thinks Putin’s announcement that the Russians are walking away from START is a material development. Do we really believe they were complying anyway?

Well, we were supposedly inspecting there up to 2020 when Covid got in the way...

This is pretty funny.
Russia’s Censorship Agency Maintains List Of Words No One Must Call Putin – OpEd
Among the terms that the Russian censors don’t want tied to Putin in any way are words that talk about his sexual proclivities or that are otherwise obscene and are explicitly directed at him. Zona.Media publishes the full list of these terms in Russian. The document also shows that Putin wants to block any talk about his health. According to the text of that document, Roskomnadzor has been collecting hundreds of such references over the last year and producing a weekly report about what diseases Putin is thought to have and what his prognosis is.
Do not look too hard for the list (I found it). It is pretty salty. Russians, apparently, are creative when it comes to obscenities.

"That is why it is so important to achieve all the goals of the special military operation. To push back the borders that threaten our country as far as possible, even if they are the borders of Poland," said Medvedev.
What the hell? Is this a veiled threat to get Poland to stop sending aid to Ukraine or something?

He's been president once and he's only in his 50s. He's shoring up his credentials for when Pudding finally bits the dust...

The Toriegraph headline I saw was even better.
Putin will eventually be killed by inner circle, says Zelensky.
I'd say he's right, but "if you strike at the king, you must king him."

It would depend on the original Russian. They would say "pushing the borders back to the Polish border" differently from saying "pushing the borders of Poland back."
One means conquering all of Ukraine. The other means invading a NATO country (Poland) and occupying a portion of its territory.
Both are beyond Russia's current capabilities, but the second is more World War III type stuff.

I'll see if I can find the Russian for you to interpret. I've seen it interpreted both ways. Bama is about to tip off vs the Hogs in CC...

Found it.
"Отодвинуть границы угроз нашей стране как можно дальше, даже если это будут границы Польши."
границы is accusative plural (a direct object in English grammar) and Польши is genetive, meaning possessive. Medvedev is talking about moving the borders of Poland, so, presumably invading Poland (a NATO country) and seizing some Polish territory.
This is not good, but the statement is mostly intended for domestic consumption and they will eat this stuff up.

He's been really active lately, with the bellicose statements. He thinks he can be president again when Pudding is out of the way...

There will be a catfight once the Old Man kicks off.
Shoigu, Medvedev, maybe Patrushev (although he is old), Mishustyn, Bortnikov, maybe even Sobyanin.
